Excellent it is something I'll keep an eye out for.

I've played Chain of Command a fair few times no and there are a lot of bits of the system I really like but a lot I'm not keen on at all. I find the game can be won or lost in the patrol phase as if you are out manouvred during it it is almost impossible to come back from, also this gets rid of a lot of the movemwent in the game- once you've deployed from the jumping off points it becomes a game of dice rolling to win the firefight. Movement is too random to be- a range of 16" in the fastest bracket is a bit silly imo. The game system with its scenarios and force lists works OK within itself but doesn't really work when you go outside of it. Some of the items on the force list aren't that suitable either imo. Due to the randomness of getting your figures on the table an attacker can win at even odds as often as not... seems to fly in the face of the accpeted wisdom of 3 to 1 odds. When you try to replicated a historical action, or another published scenario it is very hard to make it work imo.

For the record my preferred set for post war platoon skirmish games is No End in Sight. Not that is perfect (what ruleset is) but there are less things I dislike about it than other rulesets I've tried (for now).

Hope that answers your question amongst my waffling.

Cheers,

Pete.

It was a really lively one, everyone involved had a great time! The campaign aspect I think is something people miss out, definitely changes how you think/play.

If you don't mind me asking, what turns you off with CoC? Interesting to see what people dislike as they do seem very marmite-y. One of my friends dislikes it from a bad experience with the mortar barrage mechanics!

Glad you liked it! Campaign ruleset is definitely something i'm also interested in. Will definitely be something to ponder over.

Always interested to know what turns people off about CoC - what's the sticking point, if you don't mind me asking?

What a lively battle report Michael, plenty of action and sounds like you all enjoyed it. CoC really isn't my bag so can't comment on the rule tweaks one way or another but your point on skirmish games needing a thread to connect them is well made, I've certainly come to the conclusion with our Middle East and Cartel games that this is the direction we need to go in.

Very interesting. I'll be especially interested in how you implement the campaign side of things.

Regarding CoC it is a ruleset I'm ambivalent about but I will follow up on your links.

Cheers,
