I even had a chat with someone who 3d prints models commercially who, upon looking at one of the files from the pack, proceeded to repeatedly say &#8220;WTF&#8221; while looking through the geometry before declaring the files basically DOA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I appreciate I&#8217;m new to this whole 3d printing thing but there are some really bad giveaways that something isn&#8217;t right with these files.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now I need to preface this with the fact I hate talking about things being bad in the hobby. But out of the several thousand STL files I have on my 3d printing drive (thanks Patreon), none of them have caused me anywhere near the same amount of annoyance as this kickstarter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"859\" height=\"643\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hntdaab.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/image.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-23653\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hntdaab.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/image.png 859w, https:\/\/hntdaab.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/image-150x112.png 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 859px) 100vw, 859px\" \/><figcaption>This is from Chitubox, but Lychee tells the same story<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I&#8217;m not going to go into too much detail but this is one cross section of one model. Already there are a couple of issues you can see here:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Void inside the helmet slung at his waist<\/li><li>Void between his body and his vest, despite there being no access or visibility to that section<\/li><li>Thin walls and an open space inside the L85&#8217;s rail system. Although realistic, those thin walls are just going to snap during printing, especially if they are supported.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Overall, lots of places that should have been backfilled to make it easier to print. Let&#8217;s take a look at the printed models now. These are unrepaired, as the repaired versions broke even harder and turned some of these voids even larger<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1440\" height=\"1920\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hntdaab.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/PXL_20210922_234145832-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-23654\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hntdaab.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/PXL_20210922_234145832-1.jpg 1440w, https:\/\/hntdaab.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/PXL_20210922_234145832-1-113x150.jpg 113w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1440px) 100vw, 1440px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Before even off the supports, the rail has collapsed of it&#8217;s own accord. You can also see the sunglasses, where the void behind them has collapsed in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1440\" height=\"1920\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hntdaab.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/PXL_20210928_175839451.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-23655\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hntdaab.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/PXL_20210928_175839451.jpg 1440w, https:\/\/hntdaab.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/PXL_20210928_175839451-113x150.jpg 113w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1440px) 100vw, 1440px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>A few days later, clipping open the helmet reveals a void and nice shiny unset resin. Not pleasant to find.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1440\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hntdaab.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/PXL_20210928_180250337.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-23656\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hntdaab.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/PXL_20210928_180250337.jpg 1920w, https:\/\/hntdaab.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/PXL_20210928_180250337-150x113.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1920px) 100vw, 1920px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>So technically this is another figures (you can see our running man up top) but surprise, surprise, big void between body and vest.
