Okay, so literally on the day I’m writing this, I’m looking through and signing a big pile of paperwork that should be finishing off my house purchase. This whole thing has been kind of a nightmare the entire way (and there is still stuff that needs doing even after I pass the money over) but I’m really looking forward to it being done.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s also been a bit of a sledgehammer on the desire to do much hobby related – it’s hard to focus on sitting down to paint when I’ve spent a whole day dealing with house stuff. Additionally, the process of tidying and packing up takes priority alas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That said, I did manage to get a few things done this month, so lets talk about them!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Videos<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

So first up, lets talk about the YouTube updates. They are something I’m going to continue on with, but last few weeks just didn’t work in terms of timing. However, it is stuff I enjoy the process of working on – recording stuff casually and then stitching it together. Plus, video is much faster to get my thoughts down and recorded – it’s also even quicker for people to digest!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I did also record some audio for a really exciting video series I’m going to start working on for BPRE. Sitting down to that with guys behind the game was a great time – John Chang is incredibly interesting to interview, able to give you 1000 more words than you may have planned but infinitely interesting to listen to. I’ve got a plan for these audio clips to do something more than just simply throwing them out there, turning them into almost a series of documentaries<\/p>\n\n\n\n

DWARFS!<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Look okay, I know I talked a lot about the Dwarves before. But they were a pretty big job this month getting these guys off their supports and sent off to their new owner (who is frantically painting them as I’m typing this now).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The main thing from printing stuff to be given as a gift was having to put a little more effort into making sure removing them from the supports left as little damage as possible. This time around, I actually trimmed the supports off the raft at the bottom, before using a scalpel to trim away the connectors on the pieces themselves. This was in contrast to my usual technic of “just rip the supports off and deal with the issues later”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This project also had a couple of misprints – there were one or two slightly short feet or missing decorations that, if I was printing for myself, I would have probably not minded. But when you’re providing them to someone else, you really want to take every care. Luckily, my hard work paid off and he’s really enjoying painting them. I’d expect to see them on the blog soon, perhaps in the new year when we do some fantasy gaming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Insurgents<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Yeah, I’m still working on these guys. I’ve really struggled to sit down and paint through this set – not because there is anything particularly wrong with them, I just haven’t been gripped quite as much as I have with other releases. Or maybe I’m just distracted by other things right now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Either way, the other reason for now finish them off is I need to do some repair work on the RPG gunners. After gluing them together using the locator lugs, I ended up seeing a load of awkward gaps that drove me mad – to the point I actually put it in the freezer to break the super glue joins. I’ll get back to painting them soon, and then I can get to work on basing them up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dark Knights<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

I did however take a break to go do literally anything else with my painting time. I’ve had the Quartermaster Fallen Legion models in my folder for a while now and (at some point) I’ll get to work making an Easterling army. For now though, the Black N\u00famen\u00f3reans unit really grabbed my attention. They reminded me a lot of one of my favourite Vae Vicits models that I have painted up back in April<\/a>, so would work perfectly either as a bodyguard unit or perhaps someone chasing them down. I did have to re-print one after snapping the sword on the way to a paint session with the Dastardly Regular Opponent but the paint scheme is simple enough I’ve been able to quickly paint up the first four. The other two (and the totally-not-a-Ringwraith) is also on my paint desk, so hopefully I’ll find some time to splash on the Black Contrast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fantasy Mercs<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Another painting project I’ve looked at is these rather nice Last Sword Imperial troops that have been sat on my desk for a while. Well, when I say desk, I actually mean the table where all my models have been sitting waiting to dry after going in the ISO. And then waited several months. Now that I’m packing up, I needed to clear this stuff out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After clearing out all the pieces from the pile that I’d snapped in half (mostly Combat Octopus barrels), I started working through these pieces. Unlike many figures I print, these are very definitely designed to be ranked up as a group (potentially on square bases if that floats your boat). For someone who only plays skirmish games with individuals, the posing is maybe not ideal (I like my characters to look suitably heroic) but they would be okay when mixed with other characters. Or maybe I need to shift into<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I’ll do more on these guys once I get them painted up – there has been talk of Fantasy Infamy Infamy so I can see more of these figures (as well as other troops from Highland) being among the first things on my painting desk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Necromunda<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Finally, as well as my Too Fat Lardies Day experience<\/a>, I actually played another game this month. The former housemate invited me around for a game of Necromunda to see his new Slave Ogryns and generally hang out. I took some Badzone Enforcers with me (mostly to play with my horde of scum) and (after some food) we played.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And I had the worst game of Necromunda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Basically, I was cursed by poor dice rolls, a bad starting location and a list that wasn’t ideal. Combining these things together left me with a game where it felt like I couldn’t physically do anything to affect the end result. It should be stressed that none of this was down to my opponent trying any bullshit (I could see he was slowly watching me losing my mind during all this) but on the drive home I definitely felt very much like maybe I wouldn’t play Necromunda again. I’m much less militantly against it now, but I do definitely feel that there is a lot about that game that just hasn’t clicked for me personally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
