The Lazy Forger<\/a>, 6mm evangelist and man responsible for generating impulsive print sessions on my printers most frequently, grabbed me to show off some 6mm buildings (releasing today) that are picture-perfect for some Ultramodern wargaming.. And this time, we’re going into the concrete and sheet metal jungles of the favelas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the past, we have seen some pretty cool shanty town<\/a> buildings<\/a> from Lazy Forger but these have been simple ramshackle setups, huts with elements added. This release however feels much more urban and built up, nestling close to the city. In total, the range includes 12 brick and concrete buildings, alongside a collection of walls, towers and even a check point.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Going through the pack of photos I’ve been sent, there are some really cool elements to point out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From these printed examples, you can see how all the buildings look when printed out and put together. If there is one thing that looking at these 6mm buildings shows off, its that playing at such a scale gives a real sense of place – the concrete jungle looks like it, meaning you could really make a dense diorama with them or create a whole city block. One thing I think Lazy Forger does really well is just how many little details are added to them, really bringing them to life – the wiring running up the walls, the little piles of tires and rubbish, the rooftops being constructed or covered in chairs for the inhabitants to watch the world go by.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These closeups give you a better view on all the details I mention above, as well as roughly giving you a sense of just how small these buildings are. The tower at the bottom I think is my favourite – there is just so much going on on that roof section to make it feel lived in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the standout models has to be the garage kit, which comes as part of Pack 2. It actually separates out into two parts, letting you paint up the internals if you really want to go all out and show off.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/a><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Finally, Pack 3 includes these lovely little pieces – a fortified checkpoint, two concrete towers and a selection walls at various height. The walls especially are useful little touches, giving you the ability to make small compounds or yards to break up the building expanses and change the tactical challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As well as taking a look at the press photos, I got to have a little play with some early files. These were printed using pre-supported files on my Saturn printer and have come out lovely. What I really like is how all the little detail elements are included attached to the base of building, meaning you can more easily remove them from the supports (brutally if you have the hands of a gorilla like I do) without the risk of tearing them away from the rest of the model.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My printing quality isn’t the highest it could possibly be (it’s only a first generation Saturn) but this shot shows off some of the details included in some of the pieces. You can see the little bits of texture on the rooftop just asking for some drybrushing, the holes in the bricks, the curve of the tarp over the stack. Painting should also be pretty easy, with all that texture letting contrast paints really go to work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You can either pick up the Favelas in their individual packs – Favela 1 offers a mix of buildings<\/a>, Favela 2 expands it with the garage and more large buildings<\/a> while the Favela Walls include all the various addon pieces to turn your collection of buildings into a fortified area.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I’m a big fan of the Asian City buildings<\/a> I’ve used in the past as well but the Container Terminal <\/a>would be glorious for a large scale conflict (I’ve been playing a lot of Battlefield okay).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
