Yesterday Echelon Software, the makers of Black Powder Red Earth<\/a> and BPRE28mm<\/a>, dropped something brand new and larger than life to their preview feed. Having already released some rather fantastic figures for their 28mm game, they are now looking to bring All Kill No Capture to a slightly different figure market – that of the 1\/35 scale collector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We’ve been given a set of five preview images (one for each of the figures in the box), showing off the variety you’ll be able to play with once they are released. They are expertly painted by Komarev Projekts<\/a>, someone who has been kicking ass with multiple BPRE28mm projects<\/a> and got his hands on this first set to show off what you can do with them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

First up, let’s talk about the details on these guys. The 28mm figures already had an incredible level of accuracy to the real deal but going up to 1\/35 scale (roughly 54mm give or take) really lets the figure designer go to town. At this scale, you’re going to see stuff like rail segments, zippers, and even an extra level of depth in the creases that every painter loves. Echelon proudly talks about how they have licensed specific gear from people such as BCM, Nightforce, Salomon and Haley Strategic for use in their releases – you could see these on the 28mm figures but here it’s hard to miss just how accurate they look.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As well as the basic Assaulter there are also a few other guys you might recognise from the Phaseline release. Both the Assault Grenadier and the Raider Recce get a figure in the display box, letting you show the Toob some love and enjoy one of the more distinctive Cold Harbour classes with the tiny Flux Defense Raider.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the final two, we’re looking at two guys from the original box – the Operational Advisor and the Automatic Rifleman. These two really show the benefits of the larger scale, with the proportions of things like the Advisor’s radio aerials and Knight Armament LAMG being much more realistic compared to the requirements of a gaming piece.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of course, when anything Black Powder Red Earth comes up, I pretty quickly run to talk to John Chang (also referred to as Token on the Discord) to get the latest on just what they have been up to. He’s currently very busy working on both the ongoing book releases (a new set of pages just went up on the Patreon<\/a> this week) and the vast selection of other projects coming down the pipe that are set in Awbari. He’s been excited about these figures for a while – they are going to appeal to a whole different market from the usual 28mm, with 1:35 being a pretty common scale for collectors and diorama making (even I have some Dragon kits in that size from my early days of military modelling). These figures are not really designed for wargaming (although I do love the idea of BPRE54 for those mad enough to attempt it) which means they got to go all out, giving you a set of guys ripped from the pages of the book.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I also managed to get my hands on a sneak peek of the actual resin sprues you’ll be getting if you buy the box. You can get a sense of how much detail is on the figures at this stage, just asking for the paint job to pick up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fans of the BPRE Patreon<\/a> have received details of a release day where the figures will come to the Awbari Pawnshop but for anyone not paying to see the comic and merchandise early, you’ll have to keep an eye on the BPRE Facebook <\/a>and Instagram <\/a>for the news. It’s anticipated that this pack will be a pretty limited release with future production unsure until they see the demand in this new market. Personally, I’d love to see 1:35 versions of both Cold Harbor and the OPFOR, taking advantage of Black Powder Red Earth’s iconic designs and giving you something awesome to have on your desk. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

While I’m here, I should probably mention that in the next month or so I’m hoping to get a published version of the interview I had with the BPRE28 design team just before I moved house.
