As always, thanks to the members of the Special Projects and Logistics Group, News Fans and all the other patrons over on the ChargeBlog patreon – they buy my time to make this wrap-up each week, letting me take the time to gather all the news, check the details on them and prepare them in one single place. If you like these roundups and find them useful, why not chip in on Patreon and help to keep them going?

Spectre Miniatures Shows Off SAS Counter-Terrorism Team

We kick off, as always, with Spectre Miniatures. This week, we have our look at the first full squad coming out of the July releases. This set updates the SAS Counter-Terrorism team (always an iconic set due to the SAS’s visible role in the UK). This time, we’re getting a full set of operators equipped with the MCX Rattler and wearing respirators and ballistic protection. There are also a few specialists among the team as well; A breacher with a shotgun and explosive charges, a pointman with a massive ballistic shield and then a team leader with a backpack-mounted jammer. This six man team is is only one half of July’s release (the other being six SAS support operators), with the intention to release STL files to Patrons on the last day of the month (with general sale the week after). I can sense the previous Patrons of Spectre starting to make concerned noises when reading the words “last day of the month” but we shall see what we get on Thursday.

Another update is that Spectre: Out Of Time now has a fancy new front cover. Still no release date for this historical version of Spectre Operators but the store page has been updated, including a sign up element so you can be told once it’s been released.

BobMack3d Adds TOW FAV To All Backers

BobMack3d has a new update for backers of AirLand Battle. After digging through the Feedback from the last Kickstarter, they have decided to add the FAV vehicle armed with TOW (a stretch goal that was not reached) to the full set of vehicles. This is mostly coming out of the large number of people wanting to use the FAVs to proxy the Light Attack Company in Team Yankee, where the TOW carriers are a pretty vital part of that list. So thanks to the feedback, we’re getting another way to use the speedy little boys. I would have also loved to see the Blackhawk’s bench seats receive a bump too, but I am glad for us to see the ability to make the FAVs even more useful.

Additionally, if you still want to get your hands on this release, you can now late pledge by messaging the BobMack3d page on Facebook.

Desk-Ops and HAYWIRE Release Special Packs

This week we have a joint ops between friend of the blog Desk-Ops and HAYWIRE, the free ruleset from The Solo Wargamer. To help support new players for that game, the pair have dug through the various manufacturers that Desk-Ops has in stock (such as Combat Octopus, Black Hills Games and Miska Miniatures) and created some sets to help you get started. There are sets for both BLUFOR and OPFOR sets, with full packs for the Insurgent, Cartel and Corrupt Police enemies. The BLUFOR teams cover all of the core set, with the two shown above being customised from various Combat Octopus sets (very similar to Desk-Ops’s own exclusive sets). Even if you don’t want to play HAYWIRE, all of these sets are useful elements for a variety of games and save you from having to place all of those individual pouches yourself.

Additionally, you can now get the Haywire Token pack (designed by Urban Scatter Gaming) in multiple colours, giving you everything you need to get started. If you want to try Ultramodern Wargaming out, a trip to Desk-Ops and picking up the core rules for free over on DriveThru RPG will get you everything you need.

Urban Scatter Gaming Releases More Parts For Your Hospital

Urban Scatter Gaming kicked off last week with a full set of releases all around their new modular hospital. This week, we got the final four sets from those 7 days of releases, giving you everything else your hospital would need. From the Operating Theatre to the Wards, to the Hallways and even to the Toilets, you now have plenty of pieces to decorate. As you can see, each set is pretty stacked (and I do especially like the laser focused Hospital WC kit, having both hand dryer and the towel dispenser), meaning you’ll be able to bring the hospital to life. All packs are currently available over on the Urban Scatter Gaming Gumroad right now.

White Dragon Miniatures Releases Free Sample Model

Good news for everyone excited for White Dragon Miniatures‘ upcoming Courage In Contact Kickstarter. In preparation for the launch on Thursday, interested parties with a 3d printer can now downloaded an At Ease figure, giving you the chance to take a look at the level of detail we’ll be seeing in the full release – everything from the M27 IAR complete with the Squad Common Optic to the current lightweight plate carrier and belt kit. Additionally, you can try out all three head options, from the full-size ECH and goggles, the high cut variant and the boonie hat, so you can decide which one you’ll be going with for the full platoon. You can get hold of the figure on the Kickstarter page, as well as signing up to be informed when it goes live.

Also, yes, the pose does remind me a lot of the greatest Imperial Guard figure GW ever produced, so bonus points from me.

Black Hills Games Shows Off Elite Sheriff’s Unit

Black Hills Games has shown off the first first for July’s release, giving us the first figure from a Den of Thieves-inspired elite Sheriff’s Tactical team. This guy has railed M5 an plate carrier, alongside his less military looking clothing. The Sheriff tape across his back is a neat touch. No details on when this set is going to be released, but we should see more figures coming soon.

Combat Octopus Shows Off Navy SEALs WIP and CommieBlock

Combat Octopus has been continuing his work on a set of US Navy SEALs from 2007 (ideal for operations in Ramadi. The plan for this first release is for a stack of operators moving together, the figures designed to stack together. So far we have two figures, one finished and the other still WIP (although the advantage of uniformed troops is the faster turn around. As you can see, these guys have the right setup for the eta – chest rigs over body armour, 1911s in Springfield TRP holsters and short carbines with the full-size Eotechs and PEQ-2s. There are two more guys coming before the full release next month, so standby for more updates.

Also I interrupt this week’s News Stand to talk about the CommieBlock project because I’ve started printing it (with my building on the left – the much more impressive structure is done by Desk-Ops). Things have been suspiciously quiet about it, and the project is almost over, so it’s worth just reminding people about it for one final push. This is not just simply a way of building up a single style of building (although all the instructions will tell you exactly what you’d need to build up the classic Series 121 style apartment block with a variety of decayed parts that can be fought through) – instead this is a system of modular pieces that can be combined together. I have already started investigating creating smaller buildings in the same style, allowing for a really dense board. The project finishes at 02:00 GMT on the 31st so you don’t have long left to help push towards the final stretch goal and to get the files into your hands. You can find it over on MyMiniFactory, with the complete kit being roughly $55.

Modern Miniatures Shows Off The M1A2 SEP V3 and Blackhawk Crew

Finally, Modern Miniatures has released a few more previews of what’s coming next month. While the Patreon backers will be getting the Bradly IFV, the Tribe over on MyMiniFactory will be getting the M1A2 SEP V3 tanks in STL form. As with all Modern Miniatures releases, its been split into easily printable sections to make it simple to get it onto the board and support your troops (or getting stuck in a marsh).

However, back on Patreon, we have a few things coming. The plan for August’s minatures release is a US Special Forces team to ride in June’s Blackhawk, with four different poses, either sitting or preparing for the rope. As a bonus for those who chose to go All-In for August, you’ll get 1-2 poses for Blackhawk door gunners, alongside a set of heads including the face shield. These should be out around the start of the month (Modern Miniatures is usually very prompt), so if your Blackhawk needs some extra pieces, then it’s worth taking a look at the Patreon in the next few days when it kicks off.

If you want to support my work on gathering the news together, my Patreon is the best way to keep things going. With a minimal cost of £1 a month, every little helps to keep the news spigot flowing and to let me cover more of the suppliers, rules writers and inspirational creatives out there.

Of course, if you are a REAL news fan, there is a higher tier for the News Fan. For £5 a month (or £1.25ish a post), you can guarantee you’ll get your weekly dose of news updates and keep me going.

If you really want to help keep this site running, you can join the Special Projects and Logistics Group for £7.50 a month. This gives you access to a whole host of additional blog content – more in-depth analysis on the news, SPOT-REPs to act as a guide to the industry, updates on various projects I’m personally working on (such as the ChargeReal or Project Elements) or even more unannounced items coming soon. For less than £2 a week, this tier will make sure you see everything I get up to on the blog, perfect for someone wanting a finger on the pulse of the Ultramodern niche.
