It’s time for the final edition of The News Stand for 2025 as the Christmas season begins. That doesn’t mean that this edition is anything less than usual – there are plenty of previews and upcoming releases to get the Ultramodern wargamer excited. Even some stompy robots!
This isn’t the final post of the year though – next week will see the release of the first issue of SPOTREP to Patreons over on the ChargeBlog Patreon. This will provide a comprehensive overview of the current state of Ultramodern Wargaming, as well as an in-depth examination of over 23 different companies, many of which have appeared in this very series. Assembling this article has been a ton of work and is just the first step in creating a market research pack available for Special Projects and Logistics Group members – the aim is to provide anyone interested with both quarterly updates and in-depth company profiles, a one-stop shop to look at the Ultramodern market, a resource for both other companies and new fans. SPOTREPs will be released to the highest tier of membership when they are released but for this first edition, it will be available to News Fans as well.
Additionally, there may be another post coming for the highest tier of Patrons, once I’ve smoothed out some Elements and prepared a render or two. But I’m not promising anything yet.
As always, thanks to the members of the Special Projects and Logistics Group, News Fans and all the other patrons over on the ChargeBlog patreon – they buy my time to make this wrap-up each week, letting me take the time to gather all the news, check the details on them and prepare them in one single place. If you like these roundups and find them useful, why not chip in on Patreon and help to keep them going?
Spectre Miniatures Appear On A Podcast And Prepare The Little Bird
First up, Spectre Miniatures has been busy getting the news out. They were the guests on the latest edition of The Plastic Crack Podcast, with both Steve and Jess at Spectre joining the usual hosts. I haven’t had a chance to actually go through the podcast yet, but if you’re interested in hearing the latest from Spectre through their own words, then it may be worth a listen. A quick scan of the transcript does include another mention of Cartel figures coming in January, so definitely worth a listen.

On the other hand, Patreon brings us an exciting update as to what Spectre is working on soon. It seems like everyone who has been asking for models to go with the Little Bird profile in various Spectre rulesets over the years will final get their wishes answered. This kit will be available as both transport and gunship variants, both of which will come with various options; the transport variant will have optional operators ready to disembark on landing while the gunship will have all the munitions Broken Arrows players will be used to – Miniguns, Hydras, Hellfire missiles and 30mm autcannons.
Currently no details on when this will be coming out, but it is not this month’s drop (we’re still waiting for details on that). However, it is still an exciting release on the horizon.
BobMack3d Prepares A Christmas Discount

Just in time for Christmas, BobMack3d has prepared a bundle over on their store. If you’ve been interested in the World Revolution Kickstarter (or just want some low-tier Soviet armour), then with a 20% discount, you can get a big box of toys for your collection. You’ll get five core vehicles (the T-55 tank, the BTR-50 APC, the ZUS-23-4M Shilka, the PT-76B light tank and the BTR-60PB), 8 additional variants of the core set, the T-54 and T-72 Ural AND a stowage pack. At £130, this is a sizable pack for your buck. However, grab it quickly – the bundle is only running until Christmas.
Echelon Software Deploys The CCTs and Community Made STLs

Fresh off soft-launching Near Present, Echelon Software has released the first figures for this new game. The Collaborative Combat Troop are the most visible departure from the modern day in the 2046 setting, giving both sides slightly larger than man-sized automated weapon platforms (or large stompy boys) to provide fire support without needing vulnerable vehicles or static weapon teams. The larger Hound CCT provides multiple weapons to support the western mercs of Anchorage, while the smaller ZQ44 is treated as a disposable asset by the eastern fighters belonging to China’s Hankou. Both of these vehicles are now available from the Echelon store, each arriving as a multiple-part kit. I think these suits are great, providing something new on the table and with an awesome design – it’s also very promising for when we see more figures for this setting in the new year.

Despite this news of future wars, there is also some exciting news on the BPRE28 side. Developed by keen members of the BPRE community, a set of STLs to represent the buildings and terrain included in BRPE28 are now available from the Patreon. I think this is a great addition to the releases that you can get – as much as you could print out the templates onto card, running them off on a printer is a great way to get your battlezones ready. Additionally, these STLs are perfectly designed for gaming – not only do they have the slots for all the doors you’d need, they also come in three parts – you can use just the layout and a small bit of wall, add full height walls or even put the roof on top if you want to fill your board with complete structures. These are shared over on the BPRE Patreon (and you don’t even need to be a member to download them), and it’s well worth taking a look at them.
Flank March Miniatures Finishes Reforger And Prepares for Next Year

Good news for Flank March Miniatures! All the stretch goals for their last Kickstarter REFORGER have been sent out to the backers, meaning it’s time for them to start looking at the next project. Flank March has had an incredibly successful year (with REFORGER having done incredibly well) and I think next year will be even more exciting as the Cold War rumbles on (and Ultramodern gamers steal all the bits they can use/aren’t nailed down). We shall be looking forward to when the first pieces from the East German range are revealed.
Combat Octopus Previews More MENA Fighters

Combat Octopus has continued working on the next set of releases for December, preparing the final set of MENA figures. These are going to be a little less actively fighting and more for the movement to contact/patrolling stage (Condition 2 on the ChargeBlog Figure Posing Scale). We already have the two poses above, but there have been some early designs of a figure with a PKM over their shoulder and another checking a corner while on the radio. These figures should be out this month, finishing off a very successful set of parts for anyone looking to make forces from the MENA region.
Looking futher forward, January-February seems like it will be a return to the western PMCs but with a slight difference. These guys are going to be “Western Deniables” – low profile plate carriers and high-end rifles, as well as tactical equipment under jackets and shirts.
Modern Miniatures Shows Underground Bunkers And Killa

Finally, Modern Miniatures has dropped a sizable preview of January’s Underground bunker. This post goes in depth on what’s coming with the release, as well as talking about the design behind it. This includes the fact it’s not going to be using OpenLOCK, a standard clip system used in STL projects – instead, the set is going to be using magnets, complete with slots pre-cut for them. The project even includes a special tool to help with getting 3mm x 2mm magnets in place.

The big thing about this set is that it’s looking like a pretty good all-in-one for getting your underground shennighans together, be it for Tarkov-esque scavenging, STALKER monster hunts or even SAS commandos fighting through Ultranationalists to stop the nukes. With a variety of walls and layouts, as well as some special elements such as vehicle ramps and elevators to get people into action. I’m not sure how much I’d use the brick walls, but I am very interested in seeing what the complete set looks like.

However, that’s not all. The remastered versions of the Escape from InCountry bosses are now up on the Modern Miniatures MyMiniFactory page. These figures, originally by Enemy Spotted Studios/Echo Dark have been given a new lick of polygons to make them look even better, letting you get your RPK armed shopping centre guard and your sledgehammer nightmare for the table. There are also a few other releases on the store – 2×2 and 6×6 pingausers for that lightweight transport, a bloodsucking creature for the Zone and some construction items to help set the scene.

If you want to support my work on gathering the news together, my Patreon is the best way to keep things going. With a minimal cost of £1 a month, every little helps to keep the news spigot flowing and to let me cover more of the suppliers, rules writers and inspirational creatives out there.
Of course, if you are a REAL news fan, there is a higher tier for the News Fan. For £5 a month (or £1.25ish a post), you can guarantee you’ll get your weekly dose of news updates and keep me going.
If you really want to help keep this site running, you can join the Special Projects and Logistics Group for £7.50 a month. This gives you access to a whole host of additional blog content – more in-depth analysis on the news, SPOT-REPs to act as a guide to the industry, updates on various projects I’m personally working on (such as the ChargeReal or Project Elements) or even more unannounced items coming soon. For less than £2 a week, this tier will make sure you see everything I get up to on the blog, perfect for someone wanting a finger on the pulse of the Ultramodern niche.
