Adventures in Wargaming

Half of June is over, the summer is basically here and there is a pile of new updates from Ultramodern Wargaming. Read on for all the latest in previews, releases and more!
A new week beginning, lots of events going on in the world that I’ll admit I’ve found hard to take my eyes off. I’d like to echo the start of last week’s update – Listen to those in need, to those who are hurting and have had enough, try to help if you can, stand with them if you are able. Post wise, two more SITREPs of WIP stuff. I’m really excited about both, but the Enforcers have been especially fun to assemble. I’m looking forward to more parts arriving, mainly so I can finish the squad off and begin…
Seeing as my Bazi Royal Guard are now basically done, it’s time to give them a little support to roll around in. Having picked up the Gage Commando from Empress at Hammerhead (back in the before times), it seemed kind of perfect. Something capable of shrugging off rifle rounds or smashing through obstacles while not quite the overwhelming damage of a fully armoured tank. Assembly was Empress’s usual ease (and a little bit of shaving down) – I decided to go without the rear-mounted M60 (in Bazi service, it would probably be more likely a PKM) and put a .50cal…
So Necromunda – the game of gangers and steams pipes, of slowly buildings up heroes only to watch them die to the most ridiculous things. It’s a game I’ve been interested in for a long time, especially as my former housemates got into it after I left (due to the new release of the updated game) and keep being lured back to take part. Now having moved down to Leeds (and within striking distance of the rest of the players) I fully intended to assemble a gang and get to scrapping… until the lockdown occurred. However, this has instead given…
June? Hard to believe honestly. Especially with the news in the world around us. I’m not going to preach from the soapbox, especially as a lot of people are using hobbies as a way of escaping the madness of the real world and I am but one blog writer on the internet, but now is an important time to have some empathy. Listen to those in need, to those who are hurting and have had enough, try to help if you can. As for a personal update, the new season of Call of Duty starts this week (so expect some…
The final two figures from the Bazi Royal Guard – The RPG gunner and Hussein bin Said al-Bazi, one of the Bazi family and a senior leader in the Bazi Royal Guard. He is important enough to have the gold on his shoulder, but not too important that he doesn’t get involved on the ground. You may notice the RPG gunner has been modified. The RPG 7 has a quite distinctive shape to it, with the deflector cone at the back. The basic figure didn’t include it (looking a little more like an RPG-2) however, going into the bits box…
Part 2 of the Bazi Royal Guard I painted up on my Wednesday night twitch stream. Three more riflemen and an officer with pistol (ideal for shouting at angry civilians) to join the initial four. Again, super easy to paint, the Militia Miniatures models having lots of contours to catch the wash in. US 3 Colour desert camo, leather boots and belts, wooden AK stocks and finished off with an Agrax wash. Once I do the last set, I’ll get a paint list up. Next on the block? Well, the knife-wielding mad man needs some more work so he’s going…
Well, we’re still in lockdown and I’m still mostly stuck in my house, playing Call of Duty and occasionally painting some models (when I’m not working). Big new thing I’m trying out – going to be starting to do more short-form articles than waiting to make giant ones. Mostly because I’m bored of seeing just “Wargaming Week” pop up in the “Recent Posts” tab and also because I want to write more for this place. So going forward, you’re going to see less in the update section and more up here, where I’ll embed the last week’s posts to show…
Tonight’s work from the stream – the first four soldiers of the Bazi’s Royal Guard. Made using Militia Miniatures Republican Guard figures, these guys will be hitting the mean streets of Bazi city to fight back against possible Special Forces insertion against key elements of the regime. As you can see, these guys are a lot lighter armed and equipped than most of the other troops I have, so ideal for internal security/ beating up the locals who try to attack the regime. They were also super easy to paint up, with only a pair of pouches at most on…
