Austin Miniatures, makers of modular Ultramodern figures, earlier this week released a brand new set of PMC Operators, available now on Gumroad as STL files.
As you can see form the pictures above, these are all geared up with the latest and greatest in terms of kit. High spec M4s complete with a Hyrdra seque optic/laser mount, the new FN EVOLYS, the Raider pistol kit and AR10s for the DMRs. It even has a shotgun figure. It obvious these designs are coming from the same place as some of the BPRE figures, although there are a few interesting differences when it comes to the specifics.
It’s worth mentioning that these figures are actually modular. Split into three pieces (head, torso and legs) with hemispherical connections on the underside of the torso for some additional roll, this should give you plenty of options for building up your squad. There are a couple of limitations (such as only one set of legs with the M320 and rounds) but you should be able to build around them with the additional torso pieces.
But of course, that’s not all – these figures also come with some optional heads. For anyone not in the know, Battle Tribe is a great artist out in the US combining modern operators with the look of a galaxy far far away (I even have some of his patches on my wall) so seeing some of that look come to the tabletop is pretty cool. There is also a selection of helmet, meaning you show off if you’re a Mando Operator or more of a Storm Trooper.
Overally, this is a pretty solid release for any 3D printers looking for some modular operators to hit the table top. It’s definitely a style of figure we’ve seen before, but having it avaliable as STLs and with higher than usual level of modularity makes it a pretty tempting purchase.
I haven’t covered much of Austin Miniatures work, but a quick look at their Gumroad reveals a few other interesting modular kits. A modern US Marine Infantry squad with plenty of toys is interesting, as well as a few of their individual hero figures seem very familiar. Definitely a manufacturer I’ll be keeping an eye on.
