Christmas is coming so last chance to get your presents planned out! This week is definitely on the quieter side, but we have important updates from all the usual suspects as well a ruleset release. Read on for more details!
As always, thanks to the News Fans and other patrons over on the ChargeBlog patreon for buying my time to make this wrap-up each week. If you like these roundups and find them useful, why not chip in on the Patreon?
Big News this week from Gunslinger – we’re launching a new release model in January, as announced in it’s own post. The main focus here is that we’re going to make a wider variety of figures at a more sensible rate moving forward, giving you more variety through the year while still producing the high-quality and detailed figures we’ve managed to do in the last few months.
We’re also closing in on the release of the last set in the Kojoti release. I’ve already seen the character team, the High Risk Contractors (you can see one of them in the preview above) and it’s going to be a really good final set for this arc, especially when combined with the Kojoti Security team that will be launching alongside them. As I mentioned in the announcement piece, you can pick up this month’s release for the lower cost of the new tier ($9.50). If you’re interested, you can join up at the Patreon and get all 10 models when they launch later this month.
Spectre Miniatures Starts Sending Out Physical Copies Of Version 3
Good news out of Spectre – the physical copies of the new version of Spectre Operations have arrived and are being sent out as we speak. You can now go and order your rulebook from the website, receive the final PDF once your order goes through and then sit ready for the physical book to arrive.
Additionally, they have added Element Rosters and a Quick Reference Guide to the store. Pre-order customers are getting these for free but for everyone else you can simply add them to the cart when you order your rulebook.
Black Powder Red Earth Announces Event At Adepticon 2024
Spearhead is still on its way but Echelon is already talking about 2024. On the 22nd of March 2024, Echelon is running a Black Powder Red Earth: Spearhead event at Adepticon. This event is great to give the game a go, and if it’s anything like previous events that have been run, you can expect some special documents released around it to tie it into the events of the series. It’s definitely worth keeping an eye on if you want to take a look at BPRE28mm, so follow the BPRE Patreon for future announcements.
Enemy Spotted Studios Announces Recon Combat Cards
Enemy Spotted Studios has announced that they will be releasing a set of reference cards to go with the Supplemental Rules release for their latest Ultramodern game INX: RECON. These cards will cover quick references for the rules, forces, weapon systems and new special rules. The description references “hard plastic cards” which makes it seem like they are going for something harder wearing than regular paper. Watch this space for more details on what INX RECON is up to.
Contact Front Version 2 Releases!
Big news – Version 2 of Contact Front has now been fully released via Wargames Vault. This ruleset puts you in command of a modern day platoon, commanding your elements and supporting teams to achieve the objectives set before you. I very much enjoyed reading through the first edition of the rules (even if it didn’t managed to hit the table due to it’s release time) but I’m very excited to see what Version 2 brings to the table.
Currently the rules are only available via PDF on the Wargames Vault site (as well as a free sample army list book and a supplement for the War In Afghanistan). This is to allow for some final checks to be done on the released PDF (it’s amazing what people will spot once a document is out in the wild) before Print on Demand will be enabled in January.
Bobmack3d Announces Schwerpunkt For January!
Bobmack3d has started promotion on the next Kickstarter starting on January 19th 2024. This Kickstarter will cover the West German forces of the late Cold War, starting off with the Leopard 2A4 (a variant that is still seeing action today). As always with Bobmack3d kickstarters there will be a selection of base vehicles (with both stowed and clean version) as well as additional variants unlocked via stretch goals. All models come in 3 scales: 1:56 (ideal for scaling up to 1:50 before printing), 1:72 and 1:100 (great for scaling down to 6mm). Bobmack3d Kickstarters are always best to grab when they release, as there is usually a long delay before they are available on the store and the price difference can be a little bit of a sticker shock. I’m looking forward to this one in particular as there is a chance we may see a couple of Weasels rolling around, one of my favourite vehicles and great when it comes to “AFVs that don’t break a game at 28mm”.
An additional note in the announcement is that this set will include some command figures sculpted by none other than News Stand Favourite Combat Octopus. Crossing fingers they will be done in a modular style, if only so we can use the bodies with different heads!
Combat Octopus Shows Off More Previews for Chechnya
Speaking of Combat Octopus, he has been continuing work on his 1st Chechen War Russian figures. This guy is looking suitably miserable and ideal for stomping through the mud. The progress on this set is a little bit slower due to the creator’s day job at the moment, but we’ll see when the release arrives later this month.
Urban Scatter Gaming Reveals December’s Theme
Finally, Urban Scatter Gaming has shown off this month’s Patreon. Following on from last month’s FOB theme, this set will be covering all things shooting for your base. As well as the range targets and VTAC barricades that have been shown off in previous months, this set also includes a multi-part container with all sorts of bits and pieces to fill them, such as gun lockers and rifle racks. To round out the set, various logistical items such as palleted cargo, oil drums and boxes will also be included. No release date is listed but expect it soon.
If you want to support my work on gathering the news together, my Patreon is the best way to keep things going. With a minimal cost of £1 a month, every little helps to keep the news spigot flowing and to let me cover more of the suppliers out there.
Of course, if you are a REAL news fan, there is a brand new tier called, shockingly, News Fan. For £5 a month (or £1.25ish a news post), you can guarantee you’ll get your weekly dose of news updates.
If you think the news is only okay but would like to see me actually do some hobbying, then you can join the Board of Shadowy Figures for £7.50. This group will, before the start of every month, vote from a selection of mini-projects I have in the pipe and tell me which one to work on this month. I’ll then do my best to wwork on it and by the end of the month report back with my success or failure in a little post. If that sounds exciting, it’s available for you!
