We’re into the final days of Janaury and so the news is full of either releases or previews for what is coming next month. All the usual suspects are here, so read on for all the details!
As always, thanks to the News Fans and other patrons over on the ChargeBlog patreon for buying my time to make this wrap-up each week. If you like these roundups and find them useful, why not chip in on the Patreon?
We’re in the final days of January so it’s your last chance to get a hold of the Raptor Diagnostics Field Team for the Patreon price. With 6 unique bodies and 7 seperate heads, this pack is ideal for giving you some semi-covert operators on the field. My release post covers the exact details on them, with both the lore and the specifics of the design coming to the forefront and so is a great primer for the set.
If you want a set of your own, you can find the Patreon at https://www.patreon.com/flytrapfactory – back at the Gunslinger 2030 tier and get your figures today! Next month’s figures are already in the pipeline so expect a preview soon!
Additionally, if you’re interested in any of the back catalogue, then good news! All the previous releases for Gunslinger (including all of Kojoti) have been uploaded to My Mini Factory. Patrons can get a 25% discount so if you’re wanting to bulk up your forces (or just get all the Hydra head packs you may want), jump on the Patreon for more details.
Spectre Miniatures Previews Upcoming Hostages and Russians
Spectre Miniatures hit us with a double tap of previews this week. Starting with the first set, we’re getting an update to the eternally useful hostage figures. Spectre refers to them as their most popular set and I don’t disagree – they have turned up quite frequently in my games, playing the role of major objectives. This first set are on the more generic side, designed for use in a whole host of settings and to represent different characters but the preview post did mention more specific examples coming as well.
The other preview was the first look at the newly updated Russian SSO figures. These guys are using some of the latest and greatest in Russian firearms, such as the bullpup PKP, the new RPL-20 belt fed machine gun and AM-17 assault rifle (alongside the more traditional AKs with Zenitco upgrades). The team also has a GM-94 and RPO launchers, meaning you have quite the firepower from a single team. It sounds like these figures, and the Russian Motorised Rifles we’ve seen previously, are going to be part of the largest Spectre release to date with multiple squads and vehicles coming soon. More updates as they are shown off!
Black Powder Red Earth Spearhead Is Locked In
The latest expansion for Black Powder Red Earth 28mm, Spearhead, is content complete, with the aim to have it sent off for printing in early February. Patrons are able to grab the PDF right now, complete with all the finished artwork to tell the story of just how the conflict in Awbari is escalating and expanding, with two new factions, multiple new units, a new tasking type, new campaign system AND new maps for the older taskings (Phaseline and Raid).
Speaking of expanding, it’s not just the new factions getting figures in the next release. BPRE social media has also shown off one of the new figures for Cold Harbor. The Crisis Troop Scorch Assault Tech is ideal to add to your force if you’re wanting to use the various fires cards that other elements can deploy, giving you more flexibility with their usage.
InCountry Shows Off Next Month’s Tribes Release
After no post announcing this month’s tribe release (it was a set of Wagner fighters), ESS has shown off this month’s InCountry Tribe release, the Russian Alpha fireteam. This set (and the Wagner fighters) were both part of the part of the original Kickstarter. If you haven’t spotted the pattern now, the Tribe system from ESS is working it’s way through previous releases and making the STLs of them available through this subscription.
Black Site Studios Releases More MDF For Ultramoderns
As well as continuing on with the Breacher Pre-order campaign, Black Site Studios has released some additional MDF kits that would be great for your Ultramodern board. One of them may look familiar – Checkpoint Sierra was the set released with the last Spectre Operations starter bundle, now returned and available by itself. The Oil Pump and Radar Tower both look like some great centrepieces while the Industrial Scatter will add some larger pieces of cover. The Shoot House set however seems really cool, ideal for either detailing a training centre or for running some small scale boards with quickly adjustable terrain. All sets are available to order now.
Black Hills Games Previews British Infantry
Black Hills Games is releasing a pack of British Army Infantry as part of the upcoming month’s releases and the first figure has been previewed. The set will include 4 modular head options and several different bodies, with a future release potentially adding more specialised weapons to the set.
Combat Octopus Releases Russian Army In Combat!
After many many previews, I’m happy to say Combat Octopus has released the second part of his Russians in Chechnya release. This set comes with four distinct poses and a literally pile of additional parts. Every pose has two to three weapon options, some even with additional torsos for extra weapons (lots of RPG variants) AND a total of eight heads for you to pick between. Combining this set with last month, and you should be easy to make several unique squads of Russian troops for the conflict. This is one of CO’s best releases yet just from looking at it and I’m excited to get my hands on it.
Modern Miniatures Previews Next Month’s Release
Modern Miniatures has released a rather good set of previews for next month’s release. The Stryker comes with several options (such as the front hatch being open or closed) and will be bundled with some additional sets, such as the piles of packs festooning its side and the stowage options on the top (including the water bottles). There is also a pack of IED markers included, ideal for marking the peril facing your troops while advancing forward. The pack is being aimed for a release on the 2nd of February, so stand by for that at the end of the week.
Turnbase Miniatures Previews January Release
Turnbase Miniatures has shown off a preview for this month’s release. Accompanying last month’s Russian Infantry, this Typhoon-VDV comes complete with a 30mm autocannon to support the troops inside, providing a highly mobile fire support platform. No date on when this model is being released but I’ll assume it’s sometime this week.
Urban Scatter Gaming Releases January Pack to Patrons
Finally, Urban Scatter Gaming has released the January pack to all the patrons. Giving you all the modular assets you may want for a substation and urban garage, this set is definitely worth taking a look at. For those not on the Patreon, it is also available via the Gumroad page.
If you want to support my work on gathering the news together, my Patreon is the best way to keep things going. With a minimal cost of £1 a month, every little helps to keep the news spigot flowing and to let me cover more of the suppliers out there.
Of course, if you are a REAL news fan, there is a brand new tier called, shockingly, News Fan. For £5 a month (or £1.25ish a news post), you can guarantee you’ll get your weekly dose of news updates.
If you think the news is only okay but would like to see me actually do some hobbying, then you can join the Board of Shadowy Figures for £7.50. This group will, before the start of every month, vote from a selection of mini-projects I have in the pipe and tell me which one to work on this month. I’ll then do my best to work on it and by the end of the month report back with my success or failure in a little post. If that sounds exciting, it’s available for you!
