The Week In ChargeBlog: 27/10/2024

|

Last week I took a week off as there wasn’t any update other than “I was doing some writing”. This week is almost the same, but I’m also getting a few pointers as to where ChargeBlog is going next in terms of gaming and in terms of blog posts.

Before that though, a quick sidebar.

The MDF sales are still up – This is going to be the last week before I slap them on eBay and see what happens. I’m offering postage/collection/drop-off depending on location, so if you see anything you like the look of, drop me a line.

Patreon members got access to a new post last week covering the narrative work on Gunslinger 2030. This post took some writing, mostly collating all the written pieces together into something new that made sense to read through. The final Patreon exclusive post for this is coming in the next few days (I had aimed for this weekend but there are some words that need to be tweaked). After that, I’ll be back to ChargeReal with a vengeance into November – I really want to make sure the Researchers are getting their dues, as well as adding more information for the general public. There is also the small matter of updating the old Patreon posts to be on the blog instead – this means getting images added to them to help break up the miles of text.

I just realised I should probably introduce this – every week I release "The News Stand", a round-up of all the latest news from the Ultramodern Wargaming space from a selection of patreons, figure companies and rules writers. There is usually a weekly post of what I've been up to but I was busy.

While we’re talking housekeeping and planning, a minor change has occurred in the last week. I’ve moved off Twitter (or X if you want to call it that) and instead am making my home on BlueSky. Seeing as BlueSky doesn’t immediately shit can posts with links in them (unlike Twitter) I can actually make it work for me and share my links out futher.

As I mentioned yesterday, I’m back to writing SITREPs as I do hobby things. This is mostly to keep the site ticking over (I really dislike it when it’s just two post types bouncing back and forth each week) so adding some variety helps. This post is all about some 3D Printed terrain, so go give it a read!

As an aside, the return of more frequent SITREPs is probably going to change what this post type (This Week In ChargeBlog) is about. It’s going to be less about merely dumping my hobby activities and a bit more about collecting them together and going inside baseball on the specifics. It also gives me a chance to talk a little bit about other things outside of wargaming that might be affecting things. For example, despite my dislike of Cowboys, I’ve been playing an awful lot of Hunt Showdown with a few people. More details eventually.

As part of this change, you may have also seen I’ve adjusted the main page of the blog, giving you faster access to the main types of post you’ll be seeing. I may adjust these further depending on what’s needed (Probably a Patreon Post archive should be coming soon) but for now, enjoy seeing the different post types up top!

However, that doesn’t mean you escape my hobby talk entirely. Literally finished just before I started writing this post, we have some of Urban Scatter Gaming’s rocks. These were originally designed for resin, but seeing as the Saturn is currently full of Last Sword figures, I decided to stick them through Cura and print them in this fetching shade of purple. I’ll probably print out some more of these, and then get to work building up some scatterable areas of terrain to add some details to the tabletop. More on these (and painting terrain) coming soon.

That’s it for this week, with a new update coming next Sunday.
