As always, thanks to the members of the Special Projects and Logistics Group, News Fans and all the other patrons over on the ChargeBlog patreon – they buy my time to make this wrap-up each week, letting me take the time to gather all the news, check the details on them and prepare them in one single place. If you like these roundups and find them useful, why not chip in on Patreon and help to keep them going?

If you’re looking for greater insight into the Ultramodern Wargaming space than the SPOTREP series of articles is a great place to jump in. Available to Patrons of the ChargeBlog Patreon, the quarterly update linked above provides plenty of detail on the current state of the market, as well as the current thoughts on the various companies and rulesets in the space.

Spectre Miniatures Previews The Soldados And More

Starting off with Spectre Miniatures, we have some previews of upcoming releases over on the Patreon. On the figure side, we have another three figures that will come with these Cartel soldiers. As you can see, we have a good mix of fighters in body armour with higher-end weapons than you might expect for a ragtag force. According to the preview, we will soon be seeing a figure with a Barrett .50cal (popular in the region and available in reasonable numbers thanks to friends north of the border) as well as a figure with some form of LMG to provide suppressive fire. The exact weapon hasn’t been chosen yet, but there are plenty of options floating around, which means we could see some interesting fighters. No idea on the total element size, but I expect we’ll see them soon.

On the vehicle side, we have a UAZ 469, a Cold War classic from the Soviet Union that still has a user list as long as my arm. This vehicle is going to be one of many in a Soviet Bloc Civilian Vehicle range that Spectre is working on, something that is going to find plenty of use in the Ultramodern Wargaming space. We may even see some more of them in the vehicle tier this month, but no further details have been released.

Pegasus Miniatures Announces Launch Date And Counters

Pegasus Miniatures has hit a major milestone – we have a date! October 12th will see the launch of the Pegasus Miniatures website and the start of trading, with the rules, figures and more all available. The website hasn’t been launched just yet, but you can bookmark it here, while the Pegasus Miniatures YouTube page is being spun up to help show off the range and the rules. Its getting close, so it’s definitely worth keeping an eye on them.

Alongside the figures and rules we’ve seen, Pegasus Miniatures has also shown off some custom markers that will also be on sale. This pack of 12 includes three variants: rock, tuft, and blood stain. These sets are generic enough for a variety of games, while still letting you place a marker on the board without detracting from the game’s visuals. Mounted on 15mm MDF bases, these will be sold fully painted and matt varnished. A nice addition to the range.

Haywire Modern PDF Now Available

After the pre-orders earlier this year, Haywire Modern is now available in purely PDF form. While those who ordered the book already got their hands on the PDF, you can now buy it separately from the Modiphus site (at either the US or UK website). The PDF ruleset comes in at roughly ยฃ15 (a saving compared to the ยฃ40 for the physical rules) and includes all the same cards, CQB tile terrain, and book we saw in the physical pre-order. Now we just need to wait for the rulebooks to actually be sent out.

Urban Scatter Gaming Updates Free Releases

Good news for tiny urban planners – Urban Scatter Gaming has some new free releases for you! The City Board Tiles, intended to give you plenty of pieces to assemble the area between your base material and your buildings, have been very popular with those assembling their urban board. However, there was still plenty of items to add, and version 1.10 has been released with a few new additions. This includes sections with mysterious holes (more on those in a second), recessed and dropped kerbs, and a new size of slab requested by the community for those wanting wide but shallow pieces (ideal for board edges). As with the original set, this ia a free set intended to make building up your boards even easier.

Of course, streets look empty without a few key pieces, such as traffic control measures and street lighting. This small set is intended to fit in the small holes included on the pavement tiles above, letting you add those extra pieces to really sell the setting. There are also a few other stre

Both sets are available for free on the Urban Scatter Gaming Patreon, giving you everything you need to start building a board. Of course, after the basic board is down, then it’s time to put buildings on top of it – luckily, if you’re grabbing the tiles, you’re already on the website for someone who will be happy to sell you plenty.

W3 Gaming Launches Charlie County Part 1

After an initial preview a few weeks back, W3 Wargaming has now launched its first Vietnam-era Kickstarter. Charlie Company Part 1 will cover the US Army in Vietnam from 1967 to 1970 (sorry Marines, you’ll need to wait) in a pretty comprehensive format, delivering the figures as STLs (both unsupported and pre-supported). The core pledge clocks in at ยฃ45 and gives you a full platoon of figures (including M79 gunners, M60 gunners and matching loader, plenty of riflemen and the command element), all with separate heads to let you theme your force (using either the M1 helmet, boonie or peaked cap) – this tier also gets you all the free stretch goals. Upgrading to the Reinforced platoon adds support weapons (the M2 HMG and M29 Mortar), but the All In Pledge includes everything the Kickstarter includes, plus all stretch goals and add-ons.

Speaking of the add-ons, W3 Gaming is collaborating with BobMack3d and BattlegroundHD, which has some great benefits. This includes some upcoming rule additions for BattlegroundHD covering the Vietnam War and two add-ons that give you BobMack3d’s Vietnam releases, coming in either ACAV (M48A3, M551 Sheridan and M113 ACAV) or Soft Skinned (M54, M151, M106) versions – these are ideal as the add-ons also includes a pile of tank riders and crew for them, ideal to give th. The add-ons list is also interesting as it mentions a future BobMack3d release – it seems like we’ll be getting some Air Cav early next year, with W3 Wargaming producing some of the gunners for it. There are also some other fun additions coming in the campaign, such as certain Hollywood characters (King, Barnes, Gump, Beletsky and more), Tunnel Rats, Snipers Village Clearing teams and even a team carrying captured NVA/VC weapons.

The campaign runs for a full month (finishing on October 26th), so if you’re interested in getting your own US Army troops in Vietnam, sign up on Kickstarter.

Combat Octopus Shows Off More Brits

Combat Octopus has been hard at work on the next pack, bringing four more figures for the British forces in Afghanistan around 2007. We now have all four bodies for the release, with two riflemen, a machine gunner (whose pose can also be used for the L85 with UGL) and a pose using his radio to contact the rest of the platoon with his assault rifle in hand. These will be a handy addition to the existing four picks from set one, especially when taking advantage of the modular nature of these sets. The release should be out before the end of the month, as the next stage is making the new heads to go with the release (including some with only the bowman headset on, which will be very useful in the bits box), and then it will be final checks. As you might have guessed, I’m quite excited for this release.

SkullForge Studios Releases Arsenal Mega Bundle

Finally, we’re stepping away from strictly Ultramodern to take a look at a deal that is frankly bonkers. SkullForge Studios (who usually appears in this article whenever they are doing something related to the modern day, such as Tactical Stealth Action or cool mercenaries) has also been hard at work on a game with a figure range called Arsenal. Heavily inspired by the vibe of games like Titanfall 2 (whose visual language pulls from kitbashing modern vehicles and kits), this game pits players against each other with a mech, a pilot, and a few infantry grunts to provide backup. The range has slowly grown over the last few years (the game originally launched in 2024) and has now reached an impressive size.

Which makes it bonkers that on the Humble Bundle website, you can get it all (including the rules) for less than ยฃ25. The Arsenal Mega Bundle includes 35 items, including all the MCVs (or mechs), several pieces of terrain, multiple infantry squads, and even some add-on bits. A sizable portion of the range is modular, with both infantry and mechs letting you swap parts and pose them. This is an insane bundle (although it does miss out some of the eclectic sets such as a certain Jolly Man) and for that price it’s perfect for getting people into the game. However, you don’t have much time to grab it – the bundle is running for another 12 days or so as this is written, so run across to the Humble Bundle website to grab this bundle (and then the SkullForge Studios Gumroad for anything else).

If you want to support my work on gathering the news together, my Patreon is the best way to keep things going. With a minimal cost of ยฃ1 a month, every little helps to keep the news spigot flowing and to let me cover more of the suppliers, rules writers and inspirational creatives out there.

Of course, if you are a REAL news fan, there is a higher tier for the News Fan. For ยฃ5 a month (or ยฃ1.25ish a post), you can guarantee youโ€™ll get your weekly dose of news updates and keep me going.

If you really want to help keep this site running, you can join the Special Projects and Logistics Group for ยฃ7.50 a month. This gives you access to a whole host of additional blog content – more in-depth analysis on the news, SPOT-REPs to act as a guide to the industry, updates on various projects I’m personally working on (such as the ChargeReal or Project Elements) or even more unannounced items coming soon. For less than ยฃ2 a week, this tier will make sure you see everything I get up to on the blog, perfect for someone wanting a finger on the pulse of the Ultramodern niche.
