Adventures in Wargaming

Summer is here, and so the cup doesn’t quite floweth over as everyone takes time out. However, there are still some great previews for all things Ultramodern this week, so read on for more!
It’s the start of a new month which means (like clockwork), Enemy Spotted Studios has a new release up on its tribes page at My Mini Factory. And these guys are something I’ve been looking for since basically 2009. Yep-Yep. I previewed Shade Company a few weeks ago when they were first shown off but now they should be in your hands. I haven’t been sent them yet (MMF is showing me an empty slot) but when they are done hopefully I’ll be getting them painted off and ready to talk about alongside the figures I bought from ESS and…
The day is here – Spectre has released the figures they have been teasing and previewing for the last few weeks. So we have the SWAT Team, we have the Criminal Element Gang and we have the Heist Crew. We also have a resin Bearcat for your SWAT team to ride around in, making this one of the largest releases Spectre has done for a while. There are a few interesting things to point out with this release. The first is that these figures are not being released in metal – instead, each set includes the line “These Miniatures are…
Austin Miniatures, makers of modular Ultramodern figures, earlier this week released a brand new set of PMC Operators, available now on Gumroad as STL files. As you can see form the pictures above, these are all geared up with the latest and greatest in terms of kit. High spec M4s complete with a Hyrdra seque optic/laser mount, the new FN EVOLYS, the Raider pistol kit and AR10s for the DMRs. It even has a shotgun figure. It obvious these designs are coming from the same place as some of the BPRE figures, although there are a few interesting differences when…
Yesterday Echelon Software, the makers of Black Powder Red Earth and BPRE28mm, dropped something brand new and larger than life to their preview feed. Having already released some rather fantastic figures for their 28mm game, they are now looking to bring All Kill No Capture to a slightly different figure market – that of the 1/35 scale collector. We’ve been given a set of five preview images (one for each of the figures in the box), showing off the variety you’ll be able to play with once they are released. They are expertly painted by Komarev Projekts, someone who has…
Yesterday was Friday which means it’s news time! With two lots of smaller bits of news (and the fact I’m hammering out these News Stand posts and doing barely any of my own stuff) we’re going to combine them all together. First up Spectre. They have been having a little bit of a cyber issue with their main website, having to fall back to a temporary domain for a while. However, good news is that it has all been fixed! To help celebrate, Spectre has released a Hacker figure in STL format for the low price of £1. In addition,…
Following up on Combat Octopus’s 2nd VBSS release, I was approached by Paul (Paulidus on the Ultramodern Discord) messaged me about the set of VBSS figures he had commissioned from Spectre via their Director tier on Patreon. Paul has a keen interest in the 1980s/1990s tactical chic (and will not stop sending me the cool stuff he finds, trying to corrupt me as well) and so when the VBSS guys failed to reach the interest needed from the Combat Octopus Patreon, he decided to commission this team of four guys. This team of four is all armed with MP5s as…
The Lazy Forger, 6mm evangelist and man responsible for generating impulsive print sessions on my printers most frequently, grabbed me to show off some 6mm buildings (releasing today) that are picture-perfect for some Ultramodern wargaming.. And this time, we’re going into the concrete and sheet metal jungles of the favelas. In the past, we have seen some pretty cool shanty town buildings from Lazy Forger but these have been simple ramshackle setups, huts with elements added. This release however feels much more urban and built up, nestling close to the city. In total, the range includes 12 brick and concrete…
Combat Octopus has just released the latest monthly update to all his Patreon backers. This is the second part of the VBSS release we had the first part of back in February and while that initial release focused on the main assaulters, this pack adds some more unique firepower. Containing both M14s with red dots and pump action 870 shotguns, these guys are here to add some flair to your force. For Sergeant, the additional options mentioned on the chart above is adding in some MP5SDs to go for some more sneaky shenanigans (which should be added to the stash…
