    The News Stand: 24/07/2026

Summer is here, and so the cup doesn’t quite floweth over as everyone takes time out. However, there are still some great previews for all things Ultramodern this week, so read on for more!

  • November 2021 Project Update

    November 2021 Project Update

Remember when I said October was busy? November was even busier. Between family stuff, Necromunda campaign wrapping up and starting a Patreon, my actual painting time was pretty limited. But at the same time the “hobby” time was pretty productive, with a fair number of blog posts and scenarios produced. Project 365 Lets take a look at the details. But as you can see, the numbers are not that impressive… Yep, the painting number don’t lie. I painted one model to completion last month. True, he was a very good model but only one model. Also picking up the Warcry…

  • Fantasy – Musongo The Wanderer

As any fan of the blog can see, I am a fan of the Chaos Warriors from Games Workshop. I’ve painted the Underworlds group, I’ve painted both the old and new warriors. I even have a set of cavalry to paint up, although the sight of horses is perhaps slightly concerning. So, you might have guessed that when Games Workshop showed off a rather cool looking Chaos Warrior earlier this year and then announced she was event only, I may have been a touch annoyed. Cut to a few months later and guess who reappeared on the Games Workshop site?…

  • ChargeBlog Goes To Warhammer World

    ChargeBlog Goes To Warhammer World

A friend of mine reached the ripe old age of 30 this time last year and, due to lockdown, we were unable to get out and do anything for it. In a year with fewer restrictions (for now), a plan was hatched to go down to Warhammer World to hire some tables for a Necromunda and look around the exhibition hall. However, due to the weekend chosen being a LOTR event weekend, no tables were available; instead, we went down as a group to enjoy the rest of the facilities (which naturally included a pint of Bugman’s finest) and hopefully…

  • SITREP – Big Fantasy Warriors Time

SITREP – Big Fantasy Warriors Time

Aside from finishing off massive impression pieces, hobby time has mostly been focused on Fantasy figures. Mostly Games Workshop’s Chaos range. I am well on the way with the limited edition Chaos Warrior that turned up on the weekend (and then I immediately modified). Took me a little bit to remember how I painted the first set of Chaos Warriors (keep notes on painting people) but I still love the moment when black contrast goes onto the leadbelcher paint and that armour tone appears. There is still a fair amount left to do (including a ton of detail work on…

  • Impressions: Black Powder Red Earth 28mm

Oh boy. It’s been a long time since I’ve looked at rulesets, even longer since I’ve written my impressions on them. So why not kick it off with something that has been eagerly awaited? For a long time, there has been a lot of discussion about a tabletop game from Black Powder Red Earth. Keen eyed readers may remember the Spectre models that were made to represent Ember team from the graphic novels and I am continued to be annoyed we didn’t get any further sets. There was also a board game prototype that they had been working on and…

  • SITREP – And now for something, Completely Different

SITREP – And now for something, Completely Different

I just wanted to shout out to everyone reading along with these posts (I’m seeing the pleasing bump in my stats) – I’m having a really fun time writing semi-regular updates and it’s much more fun than throwing together a tweet. One little change to them going forward, I’m going to be setting them to post at 11am on the following day rather than rushing to finish them after a full evening hobbying. That way, it should appear for people to glance through either at lunch or first thing in the morning for the guys in the US. Also while…

  • SITREP – Operation Jann Strike Prep Pt.3 – A Pause

SITREP – Operation Jann Strike Prep Pt.3 – A Pause

Time for a slight change of plan – I’m sadly not running this game this weekend. Due to a few factors, I haven’t had time to get things together for the game (or even write up the scenario) so I asked my friend if we could put a raincheck on it. Hopefully we’ll run it in December (possibly over the Christmas break). That’s the bad news. The good news is the extra time and effort means I should be able to get the terrain all painted up for this game. It’s finally time to get the adobes painted up, ideal…

  • SITREP – Operation Jann Strike Prep Pt.2

SITREP – Operation Jann Strike Prep Pt.2

Okay, not as much progress as I should have done because of work shenanigans but I did assembled the hell cannons onto bases and get all my infantry undercoated. As you can see, I’ve split them into four bases. For the ammo, I was going to pile them on a sheet but realised that would be a little too flat. A hesco gives it a bit of vertical detail, making it standout a touch more. I still need to add the sand to the top. For the cannon’s I added a few chunks of green stuff to represent sandbags or…
