Adventures in Wargaming

Summer is here, and so the cup doesn’t quite floweth over as everyone takes time out. However, there are still some great previews for all things Ultramodern this week, so read on for more!
Busy day playing RPGs and board games for a friend’s birthday event but managed to assemble the other three Vigilantes for Necromunda. More Anvil parts – the welder mask I particularly like was lurking in the D-Day release. Gave them a mix of light and cheap weapons, so hopefully it’s easy to squeeze a group of them into a game. Tomorrow I’m going to start painting them, as well as making up the statlines and names for each.
The Necromunda campaign that I assembled my Enforcers for is finally starting (only a year and bit later than planned) and so I have begun preparing for my first game next week. However, the other part of the campaign is a competition to build up a pile of Hive Scum. I’ve decided to dive into the pile of Anvil Industries 3D printed parts and pulled out some ideal parts for the inhabitants of giant space station. My rough idea is a group of vigilantes “inspired” by the lawlessness of the station and deciding to take matters into their own hands.…
Well it’s happened. The Big Reveal of the shadow evil form of the Empress’s Hound’s Big Bad Guy occured. I guess I have two weeks to get the game piece size painted up. Seeing as I need him to be doing much more than just standing around being menacing. In other news, we got to talking about scale about 3d printing some of the new figures and how Combat Octopus is slightly under scale compared to Spectre and Turnbase Miniatures. Inspired by this talk, I decided to try out printing them at 110%. Unfortunately for me, I think the rescale…
This is maybe a little bit of a spoiler for upcoming adventures, so I’m going to hide the details behind the Read More. Otherwise, just know I did some hobby!
My figures for Wednesday’s game are now (mostly) complete – I just need to do their basing material. Using Northstar’s Lich pair, I’ve painted them up slightly differently, going for the Imperial Red as a hint for their purpose. The Gem? Well, we’ll see on Wednesday…
The VBLs are done. Sat down after a long day of work and managed to do the finishing touches. Touches such as “painting green” and “washing” and “hitting with two types of tan. I really like these little things, and can’t wait to get them on the wargames table. One thing I hadn’t noticed until started drybrushing was that I managed to get some pretty obvious contouring on the left-hand VBL (you can see the texture on the hatches). This was the one I printed at a shallower angle and I think the five degrees of horizontal brought it into…
Final day of doing testing for 6mm stuff. Today’s test was looking at more of the Guaro3d models to see how well they print in 1:285 vs their original scale of 1:64. For this I pulled out the Bushmaster (for testing wheeled vehicles), the German Puma IFV (which will be used alongside the Leopard 2s for Rettung) and then in the centre, the Turkish Atlay MBT which I’ve mentioned in the past for use in the Bazi Empire. As you can see from the end result, there are maybe some tweaks I should do with things like gun barrels, over…
More time spent looking at 6mm printing (haven’t been in the mood for painting). Today’s goal was partially looking at the Guaro3d models I’ve purchased in the past and seeing if they can be used in 6mm. I need to work on the supports but for the most part, yes it seems. Now obviously, these vehicles are tiny and packed full of details, so painting them might be quite interesting. I’ll take a look over the weekend. But if it works, it makes buying more models more worthwhile as they can be used for two different games. Also at the…
