  • SITREP – Initial Play of Black Powder Red Earth 28mm

SITREP – Initial Play of Black Powder Red Earth 28mm

In shocking news, I’m reporting on a monthly game against my Dastardly Regular Opponent without going into a full battle report (you’ll have to wait until the end of the month for that). Instead, we were giving Black Powder Red Earth 28mm a go. Not going to go into too much detail on it (that’s what the impression article is for) but I have a few overall thoughts: It’s not going to replace Spectre or Skirmish Sangin – this is a different style of game. We picked it up, learnt the rules and got through a full 3 mission Night…

  • New Scenario Release

    New Scenario Release

Remember the battle report for a scenario called Training Day? It’s one of my favourite games to write and play. Well, I’ve updated the mission, added it to the ChargeReal and created a version for Spectre Operations. Even better, I have released it for free on my Patreon – 30+ pages of background information, faction details and more. It even has some modifications that you can add if you wish to change it up slightly, especially if you want to let the Fates take the wheel in terms of the changes. This file is effectively a test to see what…

  • SITREP – Right Tool for the Job

SITREP – Right Tool for the Job

Over the weekend, I took a look at my tank turrets and realised that I had to do something to make them spin more freely in the turret slot. Ignoring the sensible advice to reprint them 1% less in future, I realised that maybe I should be using the dremel I got for chopping plastic model kits apart. Attaching the pen accessory, I did a little sanding down while wearing my usual facemask before looking at the dust all over myself (and on my the cutting surface and the model) and realised that cloth was not really suitable for this.…

  • SITREP – Yet Another Bazi SF Team

SITREP – Yet Another Bazi SF Team

Taking a break from scenario work, I decided to start painting up the Spectre’s Criminal Heavies. As my collection is much more focused on the military side rather than the law enforcement, I’d always planned for them to be some kind of Special Forces team. I hadn’t nailed it down but after thinking about the first real combat zone for ChargeReal, it just had to be a team from inside the Bazi Empire. Part of my pitch for the Bazi Empire is to bring some of the royal intrigue that existed in historical times and add it to the modern…

  • SITREP – Patreon Scenarios

    SITREP – Patreon Scenarios

One of the perks I’m offering to the backers of my Patreon is access to the scenario files of Battle Reports going forward. I spend a lot of time writing each one, especially when I was playing at the club and wanted each player to feel like they were controlling a proper force, rather than simply what I threw together. There is a post on the Patreon with a few more details on what these new scenario files will be like and I’ve included it’s content below I mentioned in the pitch for this Patreon that you’ll be provided the…

  • Impressions: Spectre’s Covert/Overt Figures

    Impressions: Spectre’s Covert/Overt Figures

IT HAS BEEN 10,000 YEARS! Okay well actually more like four since I first heard (over several glasses of beer in the Fox at the Excel) someone saying the magic words for the first time. “What if there were figures that came as both covert and overt versions so you can toggle between them during gameplay? It’s in the rules and it would be really cool.” In the intervening time, I think I’ve heard that idea repeated several times a year be it on facebook or at conventions. That day has finally come. From talking to Steve at Spectre, this…

  • October 2021 Project Update

    October 2021 Project Update

October was a busy month between work and playing in a Necromunda campaign (and the return of Escape from Tarkov to steal my late night gaming time) which left barely any time or motivation for painting. But on the plus side, I did only buy a few tiny extra pieces… Project 365 Lets take a look at the details. This month was definitely not as effective as some of the previous months have been, for reasons I mentioned above. But it is cool to see just how much I’ve been 3d printing vs buying in from elsewhere. Project Moderns I…

  • SITREP – HEADS… And More Enforcer Work

SITREP – HEADS… And More Enforcer Work

Over the past few months of Anvil Patreon subscribing, I have a collection of Anvil parts that are just begging to be used. The problem comes with when I’m kit bashing, I usually don’t want to wait for the printing to finish as it interrupts my inspiration. Luckily, I have a solution! Print off a shit load of heads all in one go and put them in my bits box. Which I’ve done! Along with some test heads from Turnbase Minis which I rescaled to the same size as Anvil. I used one of those heads on my heavy bolter…
