Adventures in Wargaming

Half of June is over, the summer is basically here and there is a pile of new updates from Ultramodern Wargaming. Read on for all the latest in previews, releases and more!
Big news time – I’m taking a break from writing stuff for this blog. If you follow me on Twitter, you may know that my day job is currently based in Edinburgh (more details there, trying not to cross the streams too hard). However, I’m originally from Leeds and with family and friends in the area, I do keep finding myself back there. Not to mention, the Usual Opponent is also close by, complete with his fiendish plotting. With a new year and a family situation change, I’ve decided to move back to Leeds and set up there. I’m very…
Let’s start this Wargaming Week, covering the 27th of January through to the 3rd of February. NEWS New releases from Empress – they are extending their builders yard to now include a set of damaged apartment blocks, letting you easily build out a larger city using them. They do look like some big chunky resin, so I expect them to definitely have some heft. I also had a quick chat with Empress at Vapnartak about their upcoming releases for Late War Brits. The long awaited Vickers team is almost here, as well as a 3inch mortar. Also on the cards…
Let’s start this Wargaming Week, covering the 20th through to the 26th of January. NEWS Surprisingly nothing – seems like everyone is busy getting ready for various shows or preparing for the delightful situation we’re going to be in at the end of the month. PURCHASES The one thing that arrived this week is Zona Alfa, the latest book from Osprey’s blue book series. As someone who has a super strong interest in STALKER, Metro, Escape from Tarkov and other similar stories, the idea of setting a game there has been at the forefront of my mind. From a quick…
Let’s start this Wargaming Week, covering the 13th through to the 19th of January. Blog Stuff I got back to my fantasy project! Really happy with the response to the first post -this has been a side project I’ve been working on during my downtime last year. I’m really excited about actually getting the figures on the table – both for the gameplay but also just because they are some lovely models! I’m also really excited as I’m playing around with a setting I’ve worked on with a really good friend of mine. She’s been cranking out maps of the…
So it’s been a while since I last talked about Fantasy Skirmishing. Mainly because, like a wargames butterfly, I was distracted by something shiny and disappeared off into doing non-wargaming things for a bit (as well as losing motivation). However, this didn’t stop me picking more models and continuing to think about adventures Name Change First of all, you may notice the name of this project has been changed. The reason is pretty simple – after finally settling on a story or setting, I realised dungeons would end up only being a little part of the games I’d want to…
Let’s start this Wargaming Week, covering the 6th through to the 12th of January. NEWS View this post on Instagram And a bit more work on the previously shown models… #spectreminiatures #spectreoperations #modernwarfare #modernminiatures #ultramodern #tabletopgames A post shared by Spectre (@spectreminiatures) on Jan 9, 2020 at 5:07am PST Spectre has awoken from it’s Christmas break with a pile of new updates and releases. First up, previews looking forward. We’ve already seen these heads before but now we finally get to see them all armed up. It’s an interesting set of gear – the foreground figure is armed with a…
Let’s start this Wargaming Week, covering the Christmas Break! Blog Stuff In a shocking turn of events, I actually got two blog articles done! And posted! I guess most of you have read them. Before Christmas, I managed to get my impressions on the Sarissa Walled Compound finished. These kits have some great potential, and I can’t wait to get them onto the board. I also managed to get up my battle report from Christmas’s game of Chain of Command. As always, I love playing it and this quick game has lit the fire under my backside to get around…
Christmas is the time I return home to Leeds. As well as family events, I usually end up using it to encounter my Regular Opponent and get a game of something in. This year, myself and Regular Opponent got invited up North to partake in some Chain of Command, my favourite set of WW2 rules (and one that I dearly wish was still coming to modern-day). With three of us ready to play, we decided to play Big Coc and, in between chuckling, started looking up all the tank rules we had not got round to ever using before. As…
