Adventures in Wargaming

The week has ticked over, so it’s time to cover all the latest in the world of Ultramodern Wargaming. New releases from Spectre, previews from Combat Octopus and many others, and even a sign of life from Haywire. Read on for more!
Long before I even came onto the Gunslinger project, Anton was hard at work making the figures to introduce the Gunslinger concept to the wider world. Picking a first range isn’t an easy thing – it’s going to be the benchmark that future releases are held up against, needing to give you enough space to really show off what you’re trying to do while also being a popular enough topic to get people to actually buy it. As much as some loud people might express their interest in something very specific and unique such as modern Peruvian Special Forces, the…
The word keeps coming up. I’ve talked about its first release, I went through all the previews and teased my involvement all the way back to March. But what actually IS Gunslinger? Gunslinger is a brand that forms part of the Flytrap Digital Patreon, releasing Ultramodern figures. After having made a range of Ultramodern physical releases under his Warfighter brand (as well as producing commission work for other parties), Anton decided back in 2019 that he wanted to re-enter the Ultramodern space with his own range and began gathering assets and designs My role in the story has been mentioned…
Good news for readers across the pond heading to Historicon in Lancaster, PA this weekend! Echelon, the makers of Black Powder Red Earth and the game I won’t shut up about BPRE28mm, are going to be there from Thursday 20th of July through to Saturday 22nd. Checking the exhibitor’s list, Booth 416 is where you should be looking for them, although they are going to stand out a mile with their artwork. However, as well as getting to see the game and get your hands on the components to feel how nice they are, it sounds like Saturday will also…
Okay, yes, not skipping News updates again because Enemy Spotted studios also gave us a pile of stuff to talk about. First of all, more information on RECON, the high speed pickup and play variant of InCountry. As well as reminding us of the date, we also got information on two of the sets being released. The Covert Kill Team was shown off last week, but we have more info that they are armed with the ShAK-12 battle rifle, letting you slam 12.7mm rounds to take control of close quarters fights. There is also talk of rules allowing for you…
Sorry for the delay on this one, my weekend was a little busy so I didn’t get a chance to capture the news. Which would normally be fine, but over the last week Spectre went all out on the update front! First up, let’s talk about the big news. Over the weekend, Spectre ran its first trial event of providing Print on Demand (POD) figures. This is something that it’s made a lot of sense for Spectre to provide alongside its STL offerings, seeing as Spectre’s core fanbase was built up with physical releases and a lot of the customers…
I am pleased to announce the first release of the new Gunslinger range from Flytrap Digital is coming out at 12:00 NZST on the 15th of July 2023, for those backing the Patron at the appropriate levels. This release has been a long time coming and the last few days have been a blur of back and forth making sure all the final touches are ready for this first release. You’ll find the release trailer embedded above or can be found by clicking here. Before we can get started, disclosure time! I’ve been chatting with Anton at Flytrap since March…
If you’ve been following Modern-Miniatures.eu, you’ll remember they ran a Kickstarter back in May to release some G-Class style SUVs along with a collection of upgrade parts. Well, if you missed out on that, you can now get them from the Modern-Miniatures.eu My Mini Factory page or if you’re inside the EU at his webstore. The release includes three base models of SUV – a regular size, a long version and a military variant with a turret ring and hatch. There is also an upgrade pack adding items such as snorkels, side skirts, several variants of bumpers and bull bars…
Spectre have returned from their trip to the States and we’re already seeing a glimpse of what’s coming soon thanks to the WIP channel on the Spectre Discord. It’s hard to overstate how important the Spectre technical releases (both the original in early 2017 and the SF variants later in the year) were to both this blog and to the business as a whole, providing a set of modular pieces to assemble a vehicle at just the right level of power for the skirmish game of Spectre Operations. However, time has moved on since 2017 and the variety of vehicles…
