As always, thanks to the members of the Special Projects and Logistics Group, News Fans and all the other patrons over on the ChargeBlog patreon – they buy my time to make this wrap-up each week, letting me take the time to gather all the news, check the details on them and prepare them in one single place. If you like these roundups and find them useful, why not chip in on Patreon and help to keep them going?

If you’re looking for greater insight into the Ultramodern Wargaming space than the SPOTREP series of articles is a great place to jump in. Available to Patrons of the ChargeBlog Patreon, the quarterly update linked above provides plenty of detail on the current state of the market, as well as the current thoughts on the various companies and rulesets in the space.

Spectre Miniatures Releases Biohazard, Previews Things That Go Boom

We kick off Spectre Miniatures‘ update with two new releases for the Outbreak range. On the human side, we have a four-man Biohazard team (which Patrons got a while back) wearing full-body pressurised hazmat suits and carrying Kriss Vector SMGs for mag dumping in the horde. And speaking of which, we have more zombies to expand on the previous two releases (the horde and the Task Force Zombies). This adds more characterful ones to your games, with unique civilians (such as the priest, bride, and businessman) and a few unfortunates who tried to deal with the outbreak (such as the zombie pilot, hazmat, and cop). These figures are out now, available from the Spectre Miniatures website as either physical figures or STL files.

Meanwhile, on Patreon, we have some previews for the upcoming releases. The US Rangers are getting a full support pack (including precision fires, sustained fire and more). Spectre decided to kick off with all the things that go boom, with something old and something new. On the old side, we have the classic Carl Gustav (or The Goose), a weapon widely used by the US Army Rangers (with each rifle platoon including an AT Team in its weapons squad). The newer weapon is the MTL 30 grenade launcher, one of the new prototype weapons that the US Army is generating as part of the Precision Grenadier System program. This particular version also includes Spectre’s new favourite bit of near-future kit – the Strategic Sciences MF30MD, a block of 3D-printed material that combines a flash hider, muzzle brake and suppressor.

The post showing off these guys also mentioned a slight delay on the Chinese Agitators – looks like they are going even more next gen with portable laser systems.

Meanwhile, the main releases for this month include more Brits, and the first preview shows two soldiers using the Javelin ATGM. The intention for the figure set is to include two models firing the weapon, with the other two laden with additional reloads. There is a mention of doing a full 8-man detachment to match the ORBAT, which may be a little overkill for a 28mm game, but I can see plenty of the figures with the spare tubes filling in slots in the regular infantry platoon. The next set Spectre is working on after the Javelin Detachment is the Royal Marines (presumably including all their new kit), so we should see some details in next week’s preview.

Haywire Shows Signs of Life

Haywire’s Facebook page has come back into action after a period of quiet. As well as showing off Urban Scatter Gaming’s antenna and transformer from his FOB set, comments on the Ultramodern Wargaming Discord have mentioned that we might be getting news of something big for the solo wargame. Solo Wargamer has been working on a major revision of the rules, but there was a slight delay due to real-world events. Hopefully, this means we have a release on the horizon.

Pegasus Miniatures Shows Off Painted Paramilitaries

It seems like Pegasus Miniatures is chewing their way through their Paramilitaries to get them ready for the table. Last week we saw the Webley user, this time we have a figure pulling his pistol and putting on his mask. It’s looking great and once again showing how well painted minis bring things to life.

Of course, it looks even better on the tabletop. As well as talking about getting vehicles for the tabletop, we also get to see the new paramilitary in his natural environment – checking on a period car somewhere in the backroads. As well as preparing the figures, the team are getting photographs ready for the core rulebook, so I’m expecting we’ll see plenty more great images from them soon.

Urban Scatter Gaming Previews June Releases – Welcome To The Compound

Last month saw the final part of the first wave of Urban Scatter Gaming releases, adding a dense urban core to a modern city. As June starts, the previews show us where we are going next – things are getting industrial, as the multistorey buildings are replaced by a larger compound with secure structures. The garage we saw last week? That’s just the tip of the iceberg.

The Garage is simply one way of using the core set – the Compound. This is a combination of base tiles, fences and building assemblies. The base tiles are similar to the street layout we have seen previously (even with a dropped kerb option for rolling up onto), but themed to fit the industrial area, with the look of concrete slabs that just ask to be packed full of details. They can be combined with the fences to create a modular setup that can be assembled in various configurations (as well as being packed away at the end of the night.

However, for an actual structure, the set includes several configurations of wall and interior that let you build up a selection of spaces – from single roller door garages all the way up to the L-Shaped garage we saw last week with two bays and a side office. However, it seems you can break down the configurations further and really modify your buildings. There are also some 3MF files for Bambu users that include all the parts you might need in a single file.

There are more details in the preview post, but I’m sure we’ll see some more details as the month goes on.

Whatever area you build, you’ll need some details to fill it. Luckily, this month’s Designer tier will include kits of addon pieces for the type of industrial properties you’d see in the various structures you can assemble. From front office furniture to the lifts, ramps and machinery needed for actually fixing cars, these sets will include everything you’d need. I think the Junk parts will also be handy, as piles of tyres tend to appear everywhere.

Finally, it seems that USG is here to ball – literally! We have seen the basketball court before, but this updated version is designed to fit in with the more modern releases while adding some additional details. Urban Scatter Gaming is including a lot of content this month, so I strongly recommend keeping an eye on his Patreon to see all the details before they’re released at the end of the month.

Combat Octopus Shows Off 2000s Era Spetsnaz

Combat Octopus has continued his work, giving us a few more elements finished in this month’s set of Spetsnaz from the 2000s. On the left, you can see two figures that are finished and ready for the pack, with two more relaxed fighters for guard duty or supporting more aggressive fighters – you can also see some unique details on the figure on the right, the chest rig being a Kenguru-4 rig that is something not seen in many places. However, the big-ticket item for many people will be the Vant-VM shield that the fourth figure in the set will use. As you can see in the image on the right, the Vant he has modelled is well detailed, including surface texture to show the fabric cover, and the figure will also be armed, carrying a Stechkin or another one-handed weapon. Once the pose for the shield is done, we will have all four figures ready, now just waiting for the final part – cool new heads. More details as we get closer to release, but this is looking pretty good.

Modern Miniatures Has A Blackhawk Down, Blackhawk Down

After last week’s vote has been fully counted, it seems the July release is the one many people probably predicted would win. We already have Blackhawk and Little Bird vehicles from Modern Miniatures, now we just need them crashed for a whole collection of scenarios. We already have some previews because Modern Miniatures, it seems, can’t be stopped. This helicopter is 36cm long and 11cm, a chunky release that might push some printers too far. However, as you can see, it’s a pretty impressive-looking piece – even better, we’ll also be getting a crashed Little Bird to accompany it (and something that might fit on resin printers). So, if you’re fighting your way through the streets of Mogadishu, this is just the release you’ll need.

Turnbase Miniatures Launches May Tier 3 Release and Previews What’s Coming In June

Turnbase Miniatures, after delivering Tier 2’s CBRN Operators last week, delivered another side for the Tier 3 patrons this week. The main Tier 3 pack is a new Civilian pack, giving you a set of four figures dealing with a gas attack. Tier 3 also includes the original plan for the release, giving a set of three HAZMAT Opfor, each carrying a suppressed MAC-10. These figures have been sent out to the patrons and should be online elsewhere soon.

As for June, Turnbase is going to rework one of the original Turnbase releases: the Spetsnaz in Gorka suits. Seeing as the original sets for the Spetsnaz and MARSOC have been added to the welcome pack, these updated figures will be similar to the updated MARSOC from a few weeks ago, bringing them up to the latest standards of Turnbase figures.

WarDaddy Studios Releases 15mm and 10mm Vietcong

Finally, we have some new releases from WarDaddy Studios. As well as the Ultramodern figures, WarDaddy also has a range of Vietnam figures. They have already released the core set of Viet Cong in 15mm, but this month, we have seen the addition of an Antique Weapon pack, giving you a set of figures with PPSH smgs and bolt-action rifles. This month has also seen the release of the first 10mm pack, giving you all the basic troops you’d need in the slightly smaller scale. However, that’s not all – the end of the month will see the release of two supporting packs, giving the Vietcong some heavy weapons and the commanders needed to lead them. If you want these figures yourself, you can either sign up on Patreon or pick them up from Cults3D or MyMiniFactory.
