Adventures in Wargaming

The week has ticked over, so it’s time to cover all the latest in the world of Ultramodern Wargaming. New releases from Spectre, previews from Combat Octopus and many others, and even a sign of life from Haywire. Read on for more!
It’s the new year and I trust Twitter to work correctly as much as I trust myself in a Greggs not to buy a steak bake so I’m going back to using my blog for all the little posts and updates. Enjoy! After my New Year’s celebration in Middlesbrough, the traditional New Year Shawarma and a drive back to Leeds, my original plan had been to assemble and at least undercoat the figures from the Phaseline BPRE box in preparation for their first game tomorrow during our traditional New Year’s gaming session up North at the home of the Creative…
Hey, remember when I said I was done with posts for the year? I had to rush this video slightly due to house/Christmas things but here is my unboxing of the new Phaseline expansion for Black Powder Red Earth 28mm – you can find it embedded below or over at Youtube here. Hope you enjoy seeing what’s in the box and I’ll see you in the new year!
Look, I know I’m in the middle of packing up to move but it’s close to the end of the year, I just had the new BPRE box arrive in my hands (more on that this week) and Spectre earlier this week sent me an email talking about how they are no longer selling their ruleset. It’s a lot all at once and it’s got me thinking a fair amount about the main wargaming genre I spend my time in (even if fantasy is chasing up behind it at a concerning speed). So I’m going to throw words into this…
Oh hey it’s a new month. So let’s take a look at where the Patreon money is going (and what will quickly be appearing on the print bed). Well, soonish. I really shouldn’t be adding more minis to the pile I need to move. First up, let’s talk about Spectre Miniatures. This month we got four releases. The JDB technical with the BTR turret is pretty cool (although you need to be careful with the printing as there is some holes that resin can pool in) while the small hescos are okay but no one is being converted to the…
Okay, so literally on the day I’m writing this, I’m looking through and signing a big pile of paperwork that should be finishing off my house purchase. This whole thing has been kind of a nightmare the entire way (and there is still stuff that needs doing even after I pass the money over) but I’m really looking forward to it being done. It’s also been a bit of a sledgehammer on the desire to do much hobby related – it’s hard to focus on sitting down to paint when I’ve spent a whole day dealing with house stuff. Additionally,…
One advantage of returning to Leeds is that I’m actually close to several of my friends who also happen to be wargamers (or wargamers who are my friends depending on who you ask). Since we finished lockdowns, we have tried to get together a reasonable amount to play some larger games, such as February’s Raiders of Tobruk game, which let’s be fair is mostly an excuse to catch up and hang out. As you can see from all the reports I’ve done in the past, we have pretty often ended up playing Too Far Lardy rules be it Chain of…
Welcome to the sixth weekly update where this time I recorded not much during the week! I also had some video issues with the first clip so it looks blown out. But you can also see what I’ve been up to, including painting up some spooky knights, looking at the Spectre Insurgents and once again, see what’s on my 3d printing desk. Find the video embedded in the post above or on Youtube itself at https://youtu.be/oWEDNwb9xYQ
Welcome to the fifth weekly update. This week, we go back to all those things I 3D printed and actually prepare them into a usable state (it takes way too long). I really hope you like Dwarves because boy there are many. Plus tanks! As well as that, a parcel arrives, I show you what’s in my hobby room at the moment and also prepare some things to give to friends.
