Adventures in Wargaming

The week has ticked over, so it’s time to cover all the latest in the world of Ultramodern Wargaming. New releases from Spectre, previews from Combat Octopus and many others, and even a sign of life from Haywire. Read on for more!
One thing I learned from my weekend of Necromunda I just how good a little bit of firepower can be. Since doing rather well in the first game’s trading post visit (hitting a rarity of 13), I’ve had a heavy bolter and suspensor waiting to be used. Of course, there is a problem – the Enforcers kit does not have a heavy bolter in it. However, this is Necromunda – conversion is to be expected. Being the idiot I am, I had built all my Subjugators. So a quick trip to eBay snagged me a Subjugator frame and a heavy…
I’ve restarted the ChargeBlog Patreon to act as a reoccurring tip jar for anyone wanting to support the blog. Ko-fi has worked okay in the past but with a Patreon, it allows for a little more back and forth, gathering a bit more info into what people are interested in. I go into more details in the intro post on the Patreon but nothing is going to change here. All the post I write will still be online for free. The things you gain are access to all the scenarios I write for my battle reports and a sneak peek…
Oh boy, that was a lot of Necromunda. Two of my friends from University, along with the Regular Necromunda Opponent and his sneaky boys, decided to spend roughly 24 hours in my house to get in three games of Games Workshop’s Underhive skirmish game as part of our current campaign. It was a really fun set of games and definitely a learning experience – this was my first time not playing the Delaque, as well as my first time using the Zone Mortalis tiles. Between a multi-player bar brawl, a brutal Enforcer vs Enforcer fight and the final battle. Overall,…
And there we are – after a total of 35 hours of printing I have a completed Atlay Tank. The massive time was due to a print error on my first print, a chunk missing from one side of the turret that could be possibly fixed with putty. Now I have it in hand, I’ll freely admit I’ve been playing with it for most of the day, making crunchy tank noises and trying to decide just what the Royal Bazi Army troops that are escorting it will actually look like. I’ve still got some clean up to do on it.…
I’ve been busy with some work things and writing up some Necromunda stuff (especially as I’m playing more this weekend). But, after a few chats (as well as thinking about possible future plans) I decided it was time to do some more experimenting with the 3d printer. My Mars Pro has a printing volume of 120x68x155mm which is plenty big enough for printing people. On the other hand, 28mm vehicles in my preferred scale (1:50) are pretty chunky, especially once you go above light vehicles. This can really limit your options for printing – half the fun of modern warfare…
Oh boy a full on day of Necromunda. Managed to shuffle some plans around so ended up against the Delaque for two different games. But first, I got my Hired guns painted up – and just in time! They came in very handy during the game day. I didn’t manage to finish off the civilians we’d need, but luckily they mostly blended into the board. I’ll be writing more details on the games when I do the full writeup, but the pairing of a loot heavy big game in the evening and a fun shootout lead to a great progression…
First three mostly done (aside from the base detail), three more well on the way. Should have enough time before game on tomorrow to finish off them and get the civilians and loot markers painted up. Today was a bit of a shitty one in terms of headspace and sleep, so actually getting some figures finished off definitely helped counter that!
With another callout post in the campaign chat, it looks like the Delaque boys and my Enforcers are going to have a fight on Saturday. This time however, I’m going to be ready for them. Started work on my Regulators (a set of hired guns that are basically armed locals ready to be contracted out). I’m going with the old west/industrial look to them, leather dusters and wooden guns (except for Welder man). I’m starting all of them with the same base colour for the coats, but will then add other layers over the top, aiming that they look different…
