Seeing as I spent most of the month writing rules, writing articles or 3d printing things, I realised I should probably actually finish painting something before the month ends. My eyes settled on the Combat Octopus KSK figures I had on my desk which I assembled back in December and had been waiting for their chance to step up to the plate.
And here they are done – I went for the black kit look (rather than the usual camo) to make them look like an elite special forces. Eshin grey as the base colour, black contrast over the top and then I hit it with my usual heavy Iraqi Sand drybrush. I was definitely worried about them looking boring, but the addition of the red shemaghs, orange glasses and the designs on the masks definitely make them more interesting to look at. Also the G36 in this pattern (with the IDZ stocks and the LLM above the barrel) is super cool.
Definitely going to print some more of these guys, switching up the modular parts to increase variety and add in some 417s for long range punch. My idea is that these guys are some of the troopers belonging to the Bazi Special Forces, either as a private group belonging to a specific prince or a SAS Counter Terrorism equivalent. I’m leaning towards the government look – I think these guys look a little bit too well trained to be some private army of a spoiled rich kid. And it sets them up to be used in some Elites vs Elites gun battles (once I finish the scenario).
And speaking of, here are the various Special Forces you might find in Bazistan (yes, including the robot). I’m going to do some more details on them at some point, so watch this space! It also works out nicely to show the different beween Combat Octopus, Empress, Spectre and Turnbase Miniatures. Things are roughly the same scale, it’s just the 3d printed parts are usually missing a chunk of metal on the base hence why they are smaller in height but match the proportions. In future, I think I’m going to put some material
