When I started writing this post, I was about to say it was a quiet week. Wrong, there is a actually a whole chunk of stuff! The preview bucket is overflowing, all ready to give you inspiration before they release. So read on and get inspired!
As always, thanks to the News Fans and other patrons over on the ChargeBlog patreon for buying my time to make this wrap-up each week. If you like these roundups and find them useful, why not chip in on the Patreon?
A little delay on Gunslinger this week – the figures are on my desk partially painted so the release post will be out in the next day or two. As well as showing off my painted figures, the post will include some of the same details as the previous deep dives included, such as our inspiration for specific details and how they sit in the world of Gunslinger 2030.
However, I can show off the awesome work of Pewpewjutsu over on Instagram who has been painting through the last couple of releases and doing a pretty awesome job on them. Give him a follow to see more of the figures he’s painting up!
Looking to the future, the next release is under development now, so you should expect to see some previews of it before the end of the month. We’re really excited about showing off a twist on the Kojoti we released last year, giving you a new element to expand them with or providing an entirely new force for your tabletop.
Black Powder Red Earth Shows Off Painted Spearhead Figures
Black Powder Red Earth have shown off the figures that will be coming with the next expansion Spearhead. Taking to Instagram, Jon Chang gave a quick once over the various figures the set will include, covering the small number of figures from existing factions before moving on to the brand new ones SPEAR (shown above) and Nitto. There are some lovely-looking figures in the set, especially when you see them painted up in their lore-accurate camo. As someone already excited about the rules Spearhead will bring when it releases in March (both in terms of the new campaign AND the new factions), these figures are going to be the icing on the cake.
Black Site Studios Reveals the Lore for Breacher
Listen, I like a little bit of Lore writing in these parts, so seeing that Black Site Studios has been dropping some tidbits about some of the groups you’ll be aligning with in their upcoming game Breacher is interesting. From the MENA-focused Sarie who minimise collateral damage to the heavily armed and armoured CORE (who blow up everything) to the brutal Wolf Pack operating in pairs, these factions will be how you theme your own Breahcer during creation, giving you (presumably) bonuses relating to their agency. The figures shown for each set are excellent, Spectre’s Stephen May showing off with each unique figure (as well as playing around with the latest and greatest in modern kit). The pre-order campaign is still a little bit below unlocking the solo rules, but we have until February 9th to break through that goal.
Under Fire Miniatures Shows Off More on Project Honey Badger
Under Fire Miniatures is not a company that you hear about all the time but I am a fan of some of the stuff they have produced. This week, they have shown off the resins of some upcoming figures. AS well as another set of PASGAT-wearing US Army figures from the Cold War, there is also another set of American Partisans, part of so-called “Project Honey Badger” that was previously shown last May. I’m sure these figures would be great for anything involving conflict in the US during the 1980s, especially under a Red Dawn.
Asymmetric Warfare Releases Errata
Asymmetric Warfare, the spiritual successor to Spectre Operations V2, has been out for a few months now and the team behind it has released an Errata. Available on Google Drive, the changes will also be included in an updated PDF (available to all those who have bought it) and will be in future print-on-demand and published versions. The Errata is mostly minor changes and tweaks, with the biggest being the adjustment for when smoke appears and disappears, moving from the Combat phase and back into the phase where the tactical is actually thrown – even better if you’re planning to use it to cover your movement.
Combat Octopus Powers Through the Previews For His Next Set
Combat Octopus has been carrying on with the Russians in Chechnya, this time finishing off two figures lugging the launchers into action. The figure on the left has a backpack and disposable AT, while the one on the right is hefting two RPO Shmel launchers into action (although a torso without the RPOs is also available). There are some great details on these guys, and just from the dev updates I can see Combat Octopus pushing hard to make this set something special.
Modern Miniatures Shows Off The Styrker
Modern Miniatures has shown off a preview of the Stryker releasing next month. As you can see above, it’s a pretty modern one, with both the M2 .50 cal and a Javelin launcher ready to go in the J-CROWs system (which will be a separate print so it could end up elsewhere). This set is going to test printing, so it should be out early next month. He’s also promising some extra alongside it (assuming the test print works well) so cross your fingers that it did.
There are also a few other releases that have just come out over on Modern Miniatures MMF page. As well as the police/vip helicopter shown off during the police car campaign last year, we also have two MENA buildings designed for FDM printing. As you’d expect from a MM release, all these sets are modular, allowing for ease of printing and storage. I have the helicopter in my library at the moment, so expect a print soon!
Turnbase Miniatures Shows Off Full Russian Release
Turnbase Miniatures has shown off the delayed December release and shipped out the figures. Tier 2 brings you a six-figure set of Russian infantry with 2 PKPs, 2 Tandem warhead RPGs, a regular AK-74m and another with a UGL. The Tier 3 set adds a stationary weapon back with a HMG and a ATGM launcher, as well as a spotter to assist them. This set has already been distributed to all those who were members during December.
The January release will be accompanying these figures, bringing some Russian vehicles to the table. Further details coming soon.
Urban Scatter Gaming Celebrates Test Print Day!
Finally, it was a glorious day for Urban Scatter Gaming patrons on the weekend – Test Print Day! As you can see above, the various parts for this month’s substation/garage release have gone through the testing process and come out looking pretty good. There is going to be a good mix of parts for all things industrial – for example, the frame you can see is actually made of much smaller pieces, letting you build it up as a modular assets, meaning you can use the same bits for a small rural substation or something giant in the inner city. Having passed the test prints, we can expect the full release of these items soon.
If you want to support my work on gathering the news together, my Patreon is the best way to keep things going. With a minimal cost of £1 a month, every little helps to keep the news spigot flowing and to let me cover more of the suppliers out there.
Of course, if you are a REAL news fan, there is a brand new tier called, shockingly, News Fan. For £5 a month (or £1.25ish a news post), you can guarantee you’ll get your weekly dose of news updates.
If you think the news is only okay but would like to see me actually do some hobbying, then you can join the Board of Shadowy Figures for £7.50. This group will, before the start of every month, vote from a selection of mini-projects I have in the pipe and tell me which one to work on this month. I’ll then do my best to work on it and by the end of the month report back with my success or failure in a little post. If that sounds exciting, it’s available for you!
