The News Stand: 22/05/2026

|

We’re almost at the end of May, the temperature is rising, and I am still busy with work. But none of that is going to stop me bringing the news from around the Ultramodern space, with new releases, previews and more! Read on for all the details.

As always, thanks to the members of the Special Projects and Logistics Group, News Fans and all the other patrons over on the ChargeBlog patreon – they buy my time to make this wrap-up each week, letting me take the time to gather all the news, check the details on them and prepare them in one single place. If you like these roundups and find them useful, why not chip in on Patreon and help to keep them going?

If you’re looking for greater insight into the Ultramodern Wargaming space than the SPOTREP series of articles is a great place to jump in. Available to Patrons of the ChargeBlog Patreon, the quarterly update linked above provides plenty of detail on the current state of the market, as well as the current thoughts on the various companies and rulesets in the space.

Wargaming3D Closing Down, Final Orders 31/05/2026

We start off with a pretty major shift in the space, especially for 3D printers. Wargaming3D’s parent company, Playable Prints Limited, has announced that it is winding down with the intention to close. Wargaming 3D, although maybe not as popular as MyMiniFactory and Cults3D, has been a great resource for the Historical wargamer, with many of our favourite creators also posting there (and providing a new home for the ever-useful Bergman 15mm vehicles). Its closure is not great, causing a great deal of upheaval for many creators who honestly can’t be bothered to go off and make a new account (although many already have other accounts). The important dates are listed on the website: you have until 31/05/2026 to buy anything new, but you have until 30/07/2026 to download all your models and back them up.

Something else this points out is a very important fact – you can not (and should not) use the stores you buy from as the backup for your files. Always download your STLs and keep them backed up, so you never lose access to the files you’ve paid for.

Spectre Miniatures Deploys The PLA

We’ve had all the previews from Spectre Miniatures, but now we’ve got the actual release all painted up and ready to go. The PLA Ground Forces and SOF are now available on the Spectre website (as both STL and physical items) and have been delivered to the Patrons at the higher tiers. This release includes a chunky set of figures for the mechanised forces, such as the ZBL-08 IFV, the PLA Mechanised Squad, Grenade Sniper Team, Machine Gun Team and the Flamethrower. It appears we lost two of the robo dogs from the originally planned 4-figure release of the PLA Wolfpack (so alas, only two good boys), and then we have the PLA SOF Assault Team. There is also a limited-time bundle including all the new figures, only available until midnight on the 25th of May and saving you ยฃ8 (or basically you’re getting one of the support weapons for free).

Speaking of the PLA SOF Assault Team, we only saw a single figure previewed last week. Patrons got a glimpse earlier this week, showing off all the fancy kit they are carrying. The set above is mostly running upgraded and modified versions of the standard QBZ-191 rifles, with sidearms equipped. However, there are three pieces of direct fire support and one figure capable of bringing in some off-map pain. The special weapons include the previously shown HJ-12 “Red Arrow” ATGM, but there is also a machine gunner with a modified QJY-201 medium machine gun, and the team leader also brings a QBS-09 shotgun for breaching action. The final figure ties into the PLA’s extensive use of unmanned systems to assist on the battlefield, as he is working away on a drone control system. This won’t be the only Chinese SOF unit coming out, as Patrons will be getting their hands on the weirder loadout for causing shennighans.

However, that’s not all! In a move that will remind you of the good old days of the Cadian Guardsmen at rest, Spectre has released a set of Painting Operators. Using one of the bodies from the Rangers (complete with a fancy M7 rifle) and reposed to give plenty of space to paint over, these operators are ideal for trying out camo patterns or just learning to paint. This figure has plenty of details to pick out, and I expect we’ll see many of them over the next few months once the painters get their hands on it. You get four figures in a pack for ยฃ5, or you can get your hands on the STL and print out a legion of them (I can sense someone doing a camouflage encyclopedia with them).

Looking into the future, this week also saw Spectre running a Q&A, mostly around whats coing out soon. Personally, I take these with a pinch of salt (I’ve yet to see a negative answer to any of the suggestions, and there are only so many hours in the day to release stuff), but these do occasionally have some cool things hidden in amongst them. For example, this round of questions included more previews of Vietnam Era SF, Australian and US Army figures and (the biggest news) the first comments that Spectre is working on plastic kits. This is some interesting news, but I’m looking forward to seeing more details of what Spectre is up to.

Echo Dark Studios Announces Memorial Day Sale For InCountry

It’s Memorial Day this weekend, and Echo Dark Studios is running a sale from the 21st of May through to the 26th. The sale covers everything InCountry has on the site, offering 10% off as a base rate and 20% off for any of the STLs they offer. This includes the figures from the latest two factions (Black Shell and Tiger Shark) as well as the Escape from InCountry 2.0 figures (which may be familiar if you’ve ever taken a walk through the Woods or crossed Customs) and the exclusive US physical stockists of their vehicle range. The sale runs until the 26th, so jump in now if you want to pick up any figures from the InCountry range.

Miska Miniatures Launches And Funds Red Dawn Intervention

Miska Miniatures launched their latest Kickstarter (Red Dawn Intervention) just after last week’s edition went live. As I write this, the Kickstarter is at 1691% funded (so it’s doing pretty well) and has already surpassed the stretch goals. The pledges are pretty self-explanatory – the Digital Pledge gets you two sets of regular infantry (the standing and prone sets), the Ratel 90 and the free stretch goals. Stepping up to the Digital Pledge Reinforced adds the ELand 90 and the Recce Team, but if you want all the add-on stretch goals as well, you’ll need to go to the all-in level.

Speaking of stretch goals, they have been stormed through with only four left. This has included both free variations (such as the helmeted alternatives, rucksacks and the good old Bren gun), some major paid additions (Yep, that does say horse patrol), some good weapon additions (such as the Ratel/Eland turret with 20mm cannon, figures armed with the R1/FAL and even the notrious MGL) and plenty of scenario sets (such as the medics, dismounted crews and prisoner). This is a good set of stretch goals, taking the sets to the next level. I’m looking forward to seeing more of these figures printed, especially the Bren team and the R1 variants. The Kickstarter runs until Sunday, May 31st at 8pm, so if you want your own South African troops, sign up over on the project page!

No Name Games Prepares Kickstarter For New Ruleset “Eleven Bravo”

A new addition to the News Stand this week, as we have a new ruleset coming to the market. Eleven Bravo by No Name Games is pitching itself as a platoon-level game, putting you in control of a thirty-odd soldiers in a ruleset that “strips away the cruft of traditional wargaming”. With such legendary rulsets such as Crossfire and Force on Force listed as inspiration (and a quick glance through the beta rules shows a seasoning of Chain of Command too), this is a set that seems to be making a lot of the right noises. You can find more details over on the website, while the project preview page is already up on Kickstarter.

Pegasus Miniatures Previews The Last Paramilitary Figure For Their Upcoming Range

Pegasus Miniatures has now completed the previews for their upcoming range of Paramilitaries. Designed to pair up with the Armalite-wielding character from two weeks ago, this figure is also in his boiler suit and balclava, but this time with an AKM. Sculpted by Flank March Miniatures, all four figures for the paramilitaries show off their similarities, ideal to fit together on the board as your masked gunmen ready for trouble against either the DET figures that Pegaus Miniatures will also be releasing, or against Flank March’s British figures. We’ll see more details soon on the last DET figure, as well as on how the range will be released to the wider public.

SEN Games Releasing War Correspondent Figure And Rules

This week brings exciting news from SEN Games, the makers of Fire! Modern Combat. Earlier this week, they announced a brand new release and something a little unusual. Far from adding new fighters or a new faction, this pack will add another element to wargaming – the media! As someone who has occasionally slapped down a TV journalist to give my players something to think about, I’m always happy to see this element being included. However, this is the first time that a figure is an explicit tribute to a renowned war journalist (as opposed to Empress’s heavily inspired journalist). The figure you can see above is inspired by Arturo Pรฉrez-Reverte, a Spanish writer (responsible for the Captain Alatriste novels), but also a war journalist for Spanish national TV (TVE) between the 1970s and the 1990s. There are some lovely little details on the figures, both distinctive but also able to blend into your wargaming table. As well as the figure, the SEN Games team are also adding new rules to their game to let you add both Embedded Journalists and more impartial ones. There will also be rules for noise (ideal for stealth gaming) and even two new scenarios.

This figures are up for pre-sale now on the SEN Games website, and the pre-sale runs until midnight on the 28th of May. The box includes two figures (Arturo and his cameraman) and a marker in TVE Blue. The new rules will be made available at a similar time as a PDF over on the website.

Urban Scatter Gaming Previews City Streets Corner Building In A Great Read

With a new release almost on the horizon, Urban Scatter Gaming has one final building to show off for the cityscape he has been working on. The Corner Building, complete with all its modular parts, is the perfect addition for any urban table, especially if you use the bodega set-up. Continuing his hobby-filled previews, this post shows off painting bricks, printing off facia options and even his weathering techniques. I’ve already said I really like these posts, both because it shows how good a hobbyist that USG is, but it also gets the brain working and wanting to paint more.

Black Hills Games Delivers This Month’s Text Update

Yep, it’s that time again. Black Hills Games has another text update for the patrons. This time, the key points are:

  1. May set is going to be 1990s SAS, complete with MP5s and a Remington 870s. It will be interesting to see if BHG gets the specifics of the 1990s version of the SAS kit, having moved on from the equipment used during Operation Nimrod.
  2. Kickstarter for 13 Hours is on its way, with the initial research done.
  3. June/July will see a second Black Hawk Down expansion set, this time for the Delta Force figures.

No more details, but expect to see the first previews of the SAS next week.

Modern Miniatures Shows Off A Robbery Crew

We’re getting a proper update later today (probably within hours of this post going up if previous weeks are any guide), but Modern Miniatures has dropped a little preview of what’s coming to the MyMiniFactory Tribe next month. While the Patreon will be getting the previously previewed Miami Vice set (Detectives, bosses, money trucks and more oh my), the Tribe will instead be getting a set of robbers disguised as construction workers. Armed with a set of weapons that wouldn’t be out of place in the hands of a high-end crew in Miami in the 1980s (I feel bad for the poor guy with the street sweeper), this group will come with the usual modular head selection and a set of money bags. A good-looking set, with more details coming soon, so you can get ready to drop your cash in June and find yourself in Miami (although I do hear that November this year will also be a good time to go).

Turnbase Miniatures Previews May Tier 2 Release

Finally, Turnbase Miniatures has shown off a preview of what the Tier 2 release for May will be. It looks like we’ll be getting a high-end operator in CBRN kit, complete with his integrally suppressed Scorpion. That’s what we have so far – we did have a preview of the Tier 3 release but it sounds like that may be being changed, so (as always) get ready for more updates from Turnbase.

If you want to support my work on gathering the news together, my Patreon is the best way to keep things going. With a minimal cost of ยฃ1 a month, every little helps to keep the news spigot flowing and to let me cover more of the suppliers, rules writers and inspirational creatives out there.

Of course, if you are a REAL news fan, there is a higher tier for the News Fan. For ยฃ5 a month (or ยฃ1.25ish a post), you can guarantee youโ€™ll get your weekly dose of news updates and keep me going.

If you really want to help keep this site running, you can join the Special Projects and Logistics Group for ยฃ7.50 a month. This gives you access to a whole host of additional blog content – more in-depth analysis on the news, SPOT-REPs to act as a guide to the industry, updates on various projects I’m personally working on (such as the ChargeReal or Project Elements) or even more unannounced items coming soon. For less than ยฃ2 a week, this tier will make sure you see everything I get up to on the blog, perfect for someone wanting a finger on the pulse of the Ultramodern niche.
