As always, thanks to the members of the Special Projects and Logistics Group, News Fans and all the other patrons over on the ChargeBlog patreon – they buy my time to make this wrap-up each week, letting me take the time to gather all the news, check the details on them and prepare them in one single place. If you like these roundups and find them useful, why not chip in on Patreon and help to keep them going?

If you’re looking for greater insight into the Ultramodern Wargaming space than the SPOTREP series of articles is a great place to jump in. Available to Patrons of the ChargeBlog Patreon, the quarterly update linked above provides plenty of detail on the current state of the market, as well as the current thoughts on the various companies and rulesets in the space.

Spectre Miniatures Is All Business On Patreon

It’s all quiet on the Spectre Miniatures main page over the last few weeks, but the Patreon has been ALL GO

First up, for those wanting to get their hands on the STLs from the first round of the Spectre Patreon back in 2020-ish. These figures include a good mix of the werider and wilder stuff, from winter-equipped US and Russian SF to CIA chaps with kitted-up AKs and even a pickup truck with a set of African fighters on it. This bundle was previously released during one of Spectre’s many sales but it has now been added to the Patreon shop if you want these STLs in your collection. There are some classics among the releases, so it’s definitely worth a look.

However, the end of June saw a set of releases for Patreon backers at both the Direct Action and Mechanised Infantry tiers. For Direct Action, this month was a British heavy set. The Javelin Section expands the previous British Infantry platoon, giving you a pair of teams firing and another set of figures on the move, ideal for either running as a separate element or combining into your rifle sections (especially if you want to make them look suitably miserable). The other set, previewed while I was on my break, was the Royal Marines with their new general-use weapon (the KS-1). This first set uses the rifle, and it’s included LVPO/Red Dot combo, although two figures provide force multipliers, using a thermal clip-on to enhance their spotting of enemy forces. These figures are slightly “higher speed” than the regular British platoon, but there is a mix of elements and details that make them feel a little more detailed than just “More Operators with AR-15s”, such as the scrim on the helmet and some of the gear setup. The intention is that we’ll see a support set released to include LMGs, AT and other weapons that a Commando force would need.

For the Mechanised Infantry tier, there were two ends of the spectrum – a light truck and a 66+ ton monster in the form of the Challenger 3 (as seen at Tankfest 2026). The ZIL is a classic Cold War-era truck that was previewed before I went away. The Challenger 3 has also been previewed, but this release also includes the upgraded version with the new EPSOM additional armour packs to upgrade the protection even further. These sets are available now for Mechanised Infantry Patrons.

With all those releases done, let’s see what’s coming next, thanks to the latest preview post. July will see the return of the Criminal Clowns. Although not my personal favourite range, they are incredibly popular and, quite frankly, have been a hole in the range that needed filling. They will return with a pile of classic Heister weapons such as the M4 and MP5s. There will also naturally be some high-speed cops to deal with them, including both a SWAT team and a VICE squad. These cops will also be handy about the re-done Cartel figures, which will be coming afterwards (something I know Steve has been very excited to dig into), with US Army, US Marines, and a return to the original African militia range all on the cards for this year. The PLA, North Korean, Russian, and Ukrainian ranges will all receive add-ons too. While no specific months are set for these, Spectre has a habit of swapping the arrangement around to keep things interesting and get the figures out when done. This also includes a few other things, such as the Bumerang IFV for the Russians, which is coming this month, and the first Patreon-exclusive figure. All in all, a very exciting list of what could be coming soon. If you want to sign up and see the previews early, you can find them on Patreon.

Don’t Drink And Paint Releases Quarantine QRF and Traitor Agents

New update from Don’t Drink And Paint. He has been hard at work on his Societal Collapse range, bringing out two new sets that would be ideal as the bad guys for your heroic agents. The Quarantine QRF on the left give you five elite soldiers in combat gear, rebreathers, and a variety of high-end weapons with suppressors and optics galore. In contrast, the Traitor Agents are a more ragged bunch, a cursed mirror to the Sleeper Agents. Sharing some of the same equipment but with a more individualistic look, the Traitors have a surprising amount of firepower at their disposal (including both a DMR and a light machine gun). I can see plenty of uses for both sets in both Wargaming and RPGs (especially as The Division recently got a tabletop RPG), and Don’t Drink and Paint has done a good job capturing the inspiration but making them unique as well.

Echelon Software Finishes With BPRE Awbari

After over 10 years of work, 15 publications and what sounds like a knife fight with the Amazon Direct Publishing people to get it over the finishing line, the Black Powder Red Earth Awbari arc (home to the BPRE28 game) has reached its conclusion. The PDF was originally released back in April, but it’s taken a while to get the final physical book out. I’m still waiting on my physical copy before I dive into the final issue, but I think it’s safe to say that the whole team at Echelon Software have released an incredible project without compare in the space.

Oh, and they’ll be back in 2027 with a new run of Black Powder Red Earth. If you want to read Awbari, you can find it on your local Amazon website (the UK’s is here), while the merch, BPRE28 and more can be found at the BPRE website.

Echelon’s latest project is _NearPresent, which moves the setting to 2046 and focuses on the type of war we expect to see in the near future. The last edition of the News Stand talked about the new infantry figures for the two factions being released to Patrons, but this time around, we get to see them for the general public, available now on _NearPresent’s new website. Serving as the central hub for the setting and the game, the website includes details on the upcoming limited series, merch, and a conflict bible outlining the 72 Hour War and its aftermath that players will find themselves dealing with on the tabletop. The 28mm store includes the new Anchorage MFRT and Hankou MFRT sets (alongside the CCTs released last year). As you can see in the example sets painted by Ianโ€™s Minis above, these figures feel both familiar and high-tech, with some of the same shapes you might recognise from the Ultramodern, but with a few details that put them 20 years into the future.

Flank March Miniatures Officially Launches 2D CQB Terrain

As mentioned previously, Flank March Miniatures (alongside Joe Bilton, Deep-Cut Studio and Full Metal Miniatures) has been hard at work with a new addition for the tabletop – 2D CQB Terrain! As seen in his entertaining Cold War battle report, these terrain pieces are great if you want to have all the fun of actually fighting through the structures on the board without needing a second store room for your terrain collection. Having had a set of the test on my desk (which unfortunately I haven’t yet gamed on because I am a terrible influencer), they are a great release – Joe’s artwork really evokes the interiors without being too busy, Deep-Cut are masters of printing onto the mousepad material and the concept from Flank March is definitely something I could see more of. I’ll deliver some more thoughts in an upcoming post on them, but for now, if you think these are something you want for your collection, you can find them on Full Metal Miniatures, with the pack including four layouts.

Fire! Modern Combat Previews July Pre-Orders

It’s a new month and Fire! Modern Combat has a brand new set of pre-orders to add to their existing ranges, providing an additional supporting element to both. The first up is a support pack for the Spanish Infantry that was released last month. The new set includes two figures with C90 rocket launcher (a disposable anti-tank weapon) and two additional poses with the G36/AG36 combo and the MG4 light machine gun – this allows you to upgun your Spanish infantry squad to the on-paper setup used by the Mechanised infantry or add a few extra bodies for a special purpose.

The other pre-order provides the US Army Rangers with some indirect firepower to counter the insurgent mortar team. The M224 is a 60mm mortar used to provide close-range indirect support. The set comes with three crew figures (gunner, loader and NCO) and a box of rounds ready to go and will, on the tabletop, provide a very useful high-angle firepower and smoke deployment tool. The set matches the rest of the US Army Rangers that Fire! has released, with them looking suitably high speed.

Both sets will finish their pre-sale on the 15th of July, with the intention to ship at the start of August. If you want to pick it up, you can find it on the pre-order page.

Jagers Miniatures Launches with STL and POD Ranges

A new company has joined the Modern Miniatures space. Jager Miniatures is being promoted by Glenn Kapheim, a name you might recognise if you’ve been in the Ultramodern space for a while. Working with the sculptor Lucas Martin, Jager Miniatures has a collection of ranges a little different from the usual collections we’ve seen people launching with. Sure, they have both US Navy Seals and Green Berets, but these ranges are less high speed and far more trying to be as warm as possible in the mountains of Afghanistan during the early GWOT. The other half of the release is more Teutonic, featuring both the German GSG 9 and the Austrian Jagdkommandos in their Counter-Terrorism forms. These figures are currently available on MyMiniFactory (including the bundles for each faction), while physical printed figures are being sold by SASM.

Pegasus Miniatures Shows Off More Painted Figures

Despite the delay to the company launch (and a nice trip away), Pegasus Miniatures hasn’t slowed down in showing off painted versions of all the figures we’ve only seen as rendered previews. With two members of 14 INT and a paramilitary now painted, I can see Pegasus will be getting these guys and gals into the rule book for In Contact ASAP.

What is quite interesting for collectors is the eternal compatibility question. While it’s safe to assume the Pegasus figures will look perfect alongside the Full Metal/Flank March Miniatures sets (seeing as they share the same sculptor), seeing them alongside other sculptors is very handy. The picture above shows one of the new 14 INT guys next to a Spectre Miniatures metal SAS figure on the left, and a 1st Corps SAS figure on the right. I’m sure we’ll see more examples as we get closer to release, but for now, it looks like you’ll have plenty of places to pick up extra figures from to expand the limited range that Pegasus has planned.

Urban Scatter Gaming Provides Free Items For Patrons

Urban Scatter Gaming, in the last few weeks, decided to make the offer on his Patreon a little more enticing. Now, all members (free or paid) will receive the Citty Dice Tower and Street Tile set that was given away with the first month of releases. The dice tower giveaway is a neat addition; however, I think the bigger news is that this enables USG to better tie in newer releases with the additional street tile sets. We’ve seen this with last month’s releases, and the new upcoming sets for this month also look like they are designed to work with the tiles, corners, and pavement that the free pack includes. If you want to get your hands on the goodies now, you can find them over on the USG Patreon page.

Warfront Studio Launches US Infantry Pre-Order

Warfront Studio has announced that its first box of US Infantry is now up for pre-order from its website. For ยฃ27, this set includes enough parts to build 30 multipart figures, along with support weapons such as the M249, M110, Javelin and Stinger launchers (although the previewed spure does seem to be missing the LAW and MAWS mentioned on the website). The plan is for the boxes to launch Mid August 2026

However, that isn’t the only news. We’ve also had a number of updates on the second and third sets that will be coming down the pipe after the US forces. The next set, the PMC, will be worked on next, bringing with it a set of support weapons that include the P90, Benelli Shotgun, Minimi, and M24 Sniper Rifle. After that has gone through production, the community requested that British Infantry be up next. Warfront has been consistently aggressive with its social media posts, seeming very keen to stay on our news feeds.

Black Hills Games Releases Nineveh SWAT Team Set

Black Hills Games has released the June set covering the team from the movie Mosul. As someone who is a big fan of the film, it’s cool to see Black Hills Games bringing in all the little details from the film. With the fiery team leader Waleed, squad leader Major Jassem and the FNG Kawa as the first three, you can already see the specifics have been captured for many of them. The team is mostly equipped with AKs, although Waleed is carefully carrying his RPG so as not to accidentally trigger the warhead on his back, and Amir is carrying an SVD derivative. If you want this set for yourself, you can find it over at the Black Hills Games Gumroad and MyMiniFactory pages. The July release is going to be a set of Division NY Agents (I see a trend here).

Combat Octopus Celebrates Five Years On Patreon

First up, big news – the Combat Octopus Patreon is five years old. To celebrate, CO has released a set of heavily armoured lads, designed to serve as both general heavily armoured lads and to match up with CO’s ongoing world-building. The set comes with two bodies, each supporting a mixture of SMGs, compact assault rifles, LMGs and even a magfed shotgun (as well as the mag pouches for all of them). The heads are also great for close quarters battling, bringing a set of Fast Helmets with face masks, ear pro and more (including two with skull masks for when you want to make CO’s Frontalangriffkommando. This set has been sent out to Patrons, but if you want them for yourself, you can find them on MyMiniFactory.

As part of the 5-year catch-up, we’ve also heard some good things about what is coming down the pipe. 2026 is already planned out, but 2027 is looking to start with some western stuff. Generic SOF, some figures with Bullpups and even some Modern US Army jungle fighters. However, what I’m looking forward to is the “US Army 90’s Future Soldier Program” – XM8s, OICWs and more to match the early Ghost Recon vibe. This is a theme I am entirely on board with and proves that CO is a cultured man.

For this month, however, we are looking at our early-2000s Russian FSB, building on last month’s release. CO has already sketched out all four poses, giving us a set of figures ready for combat (and ideal to back up the shielded operator). As you can see, we have a good variety of shooting poses, all of which will be modular and interchangeable for when you want to do some modding. One of the poses is well on its way, but we’ll see the rest through the rest of the month as Combat Octopus gets ready for release.

Modern Miniatures Releases Packs For July

I missed the start of July but Modern Miniatures didin’t – ignoring the heatwave that was beating up Europe, Modern Miniatures managed to get the releases out on July 1st at all levels. For the terrain tier, you get both a crashed UH-60 and a crashed Little Bird (configurable as either an AH-6 gunship or an MH-6 transport). These come with multiple parts to help with printing, as well as a pile of additional details that can be used to really make them stand out on the tabletop, the ideal objective to fight over.

On the Miniatures side, we have a set of four figures to carry on the theme of the terrain set. There are three different poses for the pilot, including them ready to fly, in a final stand with an MP5 in hand and back to the wall or even as an unfortunate casualty (pick which one is preferred depending on your scenario). Of course, if you’d prefer to go down swinging, you can have one of the door gunners from the Black Hawk dismounted and carrying his M240 with him (having reattached the pistol grip needed to convert it to infantry use),

If you want both of these sets, they are available as part of the All In One tier on the Patreon. I think this is a pretty great set, giving you both chunky, distinctive scenery and a pile of figures that can be handy for that extra touch.

Over on MyMiniFactory, the Tribes is a new vehicle for your Latin American board. The C-70 is an older US-style truck, perfect for carrying cargo (or cartel members). The tribes release comes with both the flatbed and the dump truck, giving plenty of options. It will definitely give your board a different look, a nice change from the pile of Russian trucks most of us have collected for the Middle East.

However, that’s not all – there are two other releases from Modern Miniatures for this month. To add some fun to your non-crashed Blackhawk, there is now a set of Special Forces hanging off the rope, with the set even including a military working dog for that extra detail. However, if you want something to actually shoot down the Blackhawks, you may need some crew for the previously released ZU-23 AA Gun. The new Modular ZU-23 crew comes with separate heads (ideal for theming around your particular force) as well as two options for how best to fit them to the gun (as well as opening up new opportunities with other weapon systems). Both packs are already on MyMiniFactory, with a discount code available for current Patrons.

Turnbase Miniatures Releases Russians For June

Finally, Turnbase Miniatures released its set of figures in June. Tier 2 Patrons got a set of Russian figures with a mix of gear, uniform and weapons, with everything from Gorkas and the PKM up to the latest Ratnik kit and armour alongside the AK12. Tier 3 patrons received the URAN-9 UGV, an unmanned combat vehicle with a 30mm cannon and missiles, which was tested in Syria before becoming a parade queen and being quietly shelved. The sets have already been distributed and are now available on MyMiniFactory.

If you want to support my work on gathering the news together, my Patreon is the best way to keep things going. With a minimal cost of ยฃ1 a month, every little helps to keep the news spigot flowing and to let me cover more of the suppliers, rules writers and inspirational creatives out there.

Of course, if you are a REAL news fan, there is a higher tier for the News Fan. For ยฃ5 a month (or ยฃ1.25ish a post), you can guarantee youโ€™ll get your weekly dose of news updates and keep me going.

If you really want to help keep this site running, you can join the Special Projects and Logistics Group for ยฃ7.50 a month. This gives you access to a whole host of additional blog content – more in-depth analysis on the news, SPOT-REPs to act as a guide to the industry, updates on various projects I’m personally working on (such as the ChargeReal or Project Elements) or even more unannounced items coming soon. For less than ยฃ2 a week, this tier will make sure you see everything I get up to on the blog, perfect for someone wanting a finger on the pulse of the Ultramodern niche.
