We’re into a new month and we’re one step closer to the Old World game day I’ll be playing in September. That means for the next few weeks you’re going to be seeing me frantically painting up a few more heavily armoured Chaos boys and girls. This week’s big thing was getting the rest of the 30-man block of Chaos Warriors assembled. Pulling from three different eras of plastic kit, the warriors are going to be the central block of my force – rolling forward up the board slowly, losing a few pieces along the way before meeting an enemy…
As you might have seen in the past, I’m a huge fan of Combat Octopus‘s modular figures for Ultramodern Wargaming. Each month you get a set of four figures, each split into multiple pieces (usually head, torso, legs and arms) and with multiple weapon options per pose. For example, the image below shows one of the recent NAWE sets, with the figure in question having two torso options and five weapon options (AR15, Masada, SCAR-H and MK46, with a HK416 that was made available after release). With each set usually sharing the same connection type at the waist, with a…

This week hasn’t actually seen much hobbying unfortunately. Work has been busy, a few games got new updates (such as Ready or Not) that had me spending some time playing games – I’m sure I could class engaging the cartel with Flux Raiders as researching BPRE28mm tactics, but in reality, it was just some time away from the hobby desk. However, it’s not all bad news. I have managed to get a little bit more writing done. The Shyluz Scout Platoon is well on its way. It’s actually going to be two lists – the main one for how the…
This week is a bit quieter, the month rolling on as we enter the final full week. However, we still have news from a few familiar faces, including some very cool items coming soon! Read on for more about what’s around for Ultramodern Gaming! As always, thanks to the News Fans and other patrons over on the ChargeBlog patreon for buying my time to make this wrap-up each week. This week was the final one (hopefully) spent rebuilding the various parts of my network infrastructure in my house. Media serving boxes, the backup machine, swapping drives, recovering data, replacing RAM… and all I wanted to do was just sit down, do some hobbies and paint some minis. Alas, I didn’t escape the technical work on the hobby side either. My Elgoo Saturn has been a bit of a needy mare at the moment – obviously after being bought in 2021, it’s decided it’s feeling a bit old. So, after replacing the lamp unit back in May, one of the…
The ChargeReal Research team has been in the depths this month on the Zanvult Insurrection. However, as part of their work looking at Mercenaries in the world of the ChargeReal (the full post is available for the ChargeReal Researchers tier) they have managed to uncover some additional information on two of the mercenary groups that exist in the setting. Further details are available in the ChargeReal Research Report: Mercenaries Task Force Volk, Libertalia Recruited from former soldiers and SOF operators, Task Force Volk is an example of the mercenary groups that have thrived on Libertalia. Although not directly under the…
