Adventures in Wargaming

Half of June is over, the summer is basically here and there is a pile of new updates from Ultramodern Wargaming. Read on for all the latest in previews, releases and more!
Oh boy. It’s been a long time since I’ve looked at rulesets, even longer since I’ve written my impressions on them. So why not kick it off with something that has been eagerly awaited? For a long time, there has been a lot of discussion about a tabletop game from Black Powder Red Earth. Keen eyed readers may remember the Spectre models that were made to represent Ember team from the graphic novels and I am continued to be annoyed we didn’t get any further sets. There was also a board game prototype that they had been working on and…
I just wanted to shout out to everyone reading along with these posts (I’m seeing the pleasing bump in my stats) – I’m having a really fun time writing semi-regular updates and it’s much more fun than throwing together a tweet. One little change to them going forward, I’m going to be setting them to post at 11am on the following day rather than rushing to finish them after a full evening hobbying. That way, it should appear for people to glance through either at lunch or first thing in the morning for the guys in the US. Also while…
Time for a slight change of plan – I’m sadly not running this game this weekend. Due to a few factors, I haven’t had time to get things together for the game (or even write up the scenario) so I asked my friend if we could put a raincheck on it. Hopefully we’ll run it in December (possibly over the Christmas break). That’s the bad news. The good news is the extra time and effort means I should be able to get the terrain all painted up for this game. It’s finally time to get the adobes painted up, ideal…
Okay, not as much progress as I should have done because of work shenanigans but I did assembled the hell cannons onto bases and get all my infantry undercoated. As you can see, I’ve split them into four bases. For the ammo, I was going to pile them on a sheet but realised that would be a little too flat. A hesco gives it a bit of vertical detail, making it standout a touch more. I still need to add the sand to the top. For the cannon’s I added a few chunks of green stuff to represent sandbags or…
My next wargaming scenario is being run on Sunday afternoon – two lots of regulars from different nations moving into an insurgent held area to remove the threat. I’ve actually worked out the scenario now, including the objectives and traps I’m going to throw in my way. And now, I just have to get everything ready. Looking at my plans, I have a few tasks left over: Print and paint the Royal Bazi Infantry section. Paint the Scorpion tank for the Bazi Emirate troops Base and paint the three hell cannons that are objectives. The secret fourth idea was to…
Originally, I was planning to write out long-form battle reports for each and every game of Necromunda. I have been taking the photos in preparation for them, and even starting writing the second set. However, as you might have spotted, I just havent got around to actually sitting down to them. And, with us rapidly approaching another big weekend (where I’m off to Middlesbrough for some final battles against some new foes) I realised I should probably get down some details of how my campaign has actually gone so far! Game 1 is available in full here – a caravan…
There he is – GROM is finished. Well mostly finished – I still need to paint up his base in some rust colours and add some final highlights but I’d be happy enough to put this guy on the board. I’m very excited about getting this guy on the board – the figure came out exactly as I planned, will fight my force AND be a terror on the tabletop. His Thunder will be much needed this weekend. This week, I’ve also decided to get rid of my Space Marines. I had planned to build a small force, but as…
This weekend is another Necromunda weekend, where I’ll be heading northwards with my enforcer band. However, before i go I need some addition firepower assembled and painted. After all, I did have a heavy bolter in the stash. Assembled a few weeks ago, I finally got him undercoated and began the painting. He’s still a WIP but really happy with how the helmet looks. Hopefully finish him tomorrow.
