It’s the start of the month so time for release week! Asymmetric Warfare is out, InCountry has a cool new release (and is a year old) and we also have a whole host of new Patreons and campaigns kicking off. Never a dull moment!
As always, thanks to the News Fans and other patrons over on the ChargeBlog patreon for buying my time to make this wrap-up each week. If you like these roundups and find them useful, why not chip in on the Patreon?
Big news from Gunslinger is that we have a new project coming very soon! Alongside our monthly trips to 2030 on the Flytrap Digital Patreon, Gunslinger is beginning some more self-contained releases for specific time periods, taking advantage of the house style to bring you even more unique figures for 3D Printing and POD. As Anton has a keen interest in the Vietnam War, he has been working away on a set to cover the men of the MACV-SOG teams on their trips across the fence as well as their North Vietnamese opponents. With 22 figures on the way (and that’s before we hit the stretch goals), this set is going to be very exciting for anyone wanting to kick off patrolling in the depths of the jungle. More details coming soon, and expect plenty of updates as the campaign progresses.
Asymmetric Warfare is Released
As you might have seen earlier this week when I had to clear up some confusion over it all, Asymmetric Warfare has been released into the wild. If you’re a keen fan of Spectre Operations V2 and want to have the most up-to-date version of the rules, AW has smoothed over the things that needed smoothing, added a few additional elements and got the rules back out there for people to purchase. Currently it’s only available as a PDF via Drive-Thru RPG (costing roughly £9.99) but there are plans to prepare it for POD once it’s survived a first round with the general public. There are also other things planned, with some elements that have been previously released for V2 getting a bit of a tune-up to fit the updated rules.
InCountry Tribes Brings Back The Hazmat Team
A new month, a new release from the Enemy Spotted Studios’s InCountry QRF on MyMiniFactory. This month we have a new pack of Hazmat equipped Western Operators, following on from last month’s release and ideal to accompany the set of similarly equipped figures from the original Kickstarter. These guys are fully kitted up with masks and panoramic NVGs as well as heavier weapons such as a LMG and Multiple Grenade Launcher. If you want a set of these guys for your tabletop, sign up over on MMF.
This week also sees the one-year anniversary of InCountry. With over 6500 unique rulebook downloads and 28 INX events in that time, it’s safe to say InCountry is doing rather well. Standby to see what else is coming.
SkullForge Studios Deploys The PMCs To Handle Some Prawns
I’m a little slow on this but SkullForge Studios has continued its releases suitable for any Ultramodern game with a set heavily inspired by a favourite of mine, District 9. The end of last month saw this set referred to as Veldt Hounds, inspired by the look of the main bad guy. With suppressed G36s and a Vector, these guys are a good generic contractor look, all ready for any tabletop.
However, earlier in the month Skullforge also released some of the other units for District 9. Alongside the prawns and their mech (not pictured), the two big ones for Ultramoderns were the MNU contractors and the Nigerian opposition. These are some nice sculpts, and nice to see the particular look of the MNU mercs finally on the tabletop.
These figures are no longer available to Patrons but should be on the Gumroad in a month or two. Looking at the Skullforge Discord, there are plans ahead for lots of Ultramodern things so it’s going to be definitely worth keeping an eye on.
The Bodyguards Go Active In The Latest Combat Octopus Previews.
Combat Octopus has started showing the first preview images of the upcoming second half of the VIP and Bodyguard releases. While set one was the team on guard duty, this set is going to be in the action, weapons out and ready for combat. There will be four combat poses, as well as an additional VIP rounding out the next release.
Urban Scatter Gaming Unleashes On Patreon
Urban Scatter Gaming has gone live with his Patreon! Coming in for the first month’s release is a set of FOB assets, as previewed in the last few weeks, giving you plenty of pieces for a mobile easily deployable command centre and the parts to set it up (like aircon). The main building has plenty of optional parts (such as the legs and even the roof) so it can be re-used for gamed through.
Exclusivcely for Patrons there is also this pack of drones. With a wheeled “Kimodo” drone, the hovering “Minnow” and the hardcased control unit, this set gives you a few additional assets to scout for your force, as well as providing potential objectives
Modern Miniatures Previews December Releases
Modern Miniatures has already released this month’s packs (the Military FOB and Cargo train shown previously) but is already looking ahead to December. With dirt piles, a portacabin structure and the ever useful portaloo, we’re looking forward to some construction site assets. According to the preview on Discord, we still have a building and an excavator to come, giving you plenty of assets for your next tabletop.
Black Hills Games Prepares To Release the Cartel
Black Hills Games has shown off the latest release heading out to October backers soon. This set of Cartel is split between four street-level thugs and a trio of higher-level goons with AR15s, body armour and even the height of tactical gear, kneepads. For anyone backing the Patreon at the lower level, you’ll just be missing two of the better-equipped sicarios.
November patrons will be receiving the next release, a set of African Rebels.
Turnbase Miniatures Previews Next Month’s Release
Turnbase Miniatures has released the first preview for their next release. Armed with a DP-12 shotgun and wearing rebreathing gear and NVGs, we’ll soon see what the theme is (seeing as we haven’t been told it yet).
The Lazy Forger Prepares The Second Wave
As an update from friends of the blog, The Lazy Forger has kicked off the pre-subscription for the next campaign for Full Spectrum Dominance. The Second Wave adds two more factions (the industrial troops of The Union and the corporate troops of the Conglomerate) but also includes the wonderful industrial pieces I’ve been showing off over the past few weeks. If you subscribe to the pre-campaign over on My MiniFactory, then you’ll get some free samples right now, ideal for taking a look at the quality that THe Lazy Forger produces.
If you want to support my work on gathering the news together, my Patreon is the best way to keep things going. With a minimal cost of £1 a month, every little helps to keep the news spigot flowing and to let me cover more of the suppliers out there.
Of course, if you are a REAL news fan, there is a brand new tier called, shockingly, News Fan. For £5 a month (or £1.25ish a news post), you can guarantee you’ll get your weekly dose of news updates.
If you think the news is only okay but would like to see me actually do some hobbying, then you can join the Board of Shadowy Figures for £7.50. This group will, before the start of every month, vote from a selection of mini-projects I have in the pipe and tell me which one to work on this month. I’ll then do my best to work on it and by the end of the month report back with my success or failure in a little post. If that sounds exciting, it’s available for you!
