Summer is here, and so the cup doesn’t quite floweth over as everyone takes time out. However, there are still some great previews for all things Ultramodern this week, so read on for more!
As always, thanks to the members of the Special Projects and Logistics Group, News Fans and all the other patrons over on the ChargeBlog patreon – they buy my time to make this wrap-up each week, letting me take the time to gather all the news, check the details on them and prepare them in one single place. If you like these roundups and find them useful, why not chip in on Patreon and help to keep them going?
If you’re looking for greater insight into the Ultramodern Wargaming space than the SPOTREP series of articles is a great place to jump in. Available to Patrons of the ChargeBlog Patreon, the quarterly update linked above provides plenty of detail on the current state of the market, as well as the current thoughts on the various companies and rulesets in the space.
Spectre Miniatures Returns With Previews

Spectre Miniatures is back from their break, and we have some new WIP shots over on The Patreon. You might recognise the fellow on the left side as heavily inspired by the larger Cartel Enforcer that was in the metal range. I would say that figure was pretty iconic for the Spectre range (he did have a habit of popping up in promotional pictures), so it’s fair to see that his design returns, now in STL form. Against him, we can also see a new State Trooper figure in uniform, ideal to add to the Texas Rangers pair released previously. Finally, and carrying on from Spectre’s last entry in The News Stand, we have a slightly more finished version of the first Criminal Clown figure. This one is a little more detailed than previously released versions, with an MP5 with flashlight and an armoured vest with mag pouches – these clowns have definitely improved since their first outing, although maybe he should wait until later to count the money.
On the other side, Spectre continues its UGV releases with the ZRY 222, a favourite of the Chinese military parades. This is a roughly man-sized armed UGV, mounting a machine gun and what appears to be two types of rocket/missile systems. The PLA has shown off a lot of drones (including the robo-dogs already released by Spectre), with the intention to use them throughout their armed forces – having a light vehicle with firepower that would be hard to be man-portable while also mounting sensors to tie into a larger network. We’ll see more of this model soon, as well as other PLA figures that Spectre has planned.
BobMack3d Teases Upcoming Kickstarter

BobMack3d has started teasing an upcoming Kickstarter project that will be coming soon. So far, all we’ve got is this initial tease with the rear end of one vehicle (including a hint of a tow hook and the rear suspension. Seeing as BobMack3d has now expanded to cover WW2 as well as the Cold War, we’ll have to see next week what vehicle it is and where it’s from (and more importantly, what other vehicles we might see).
Flank March Miniatures Shows More of Wave 2 for BRUDERKRIEG

Flank March Miniatures is currently on a break, but that didn’t stop him from giving us another set of previews for the East Germans. While last week was a lot of team weapons, this week we get more individual support weapons and tools. On the left, we have a set of four useful figures – a radio operator (or Funker) carrying the lightweight R-126 Radio, a Strela 3 operator with goggles, a Fallschrimjager with RPG-7D (complete with FJ helmet) and an SVD marksman intended for FJ operations.
On the right, we have a slightly concerning tool that many a Squad player will recognise. The RKG-3M is an anti-tank grenade that is a pretty terrifying threat at close quarters to even tanks (and they are still being used in Ukraine today, usually from drones). The pack will include three poses (I quite like the one throwing the grenade on the right) and a handy marker for the grenade with its parachute deployed.

On the other hand, the NVA are also getting crew for the T-12 Anti-Tank gun, ideal for the rear echelon units who didn’t get their hands on the ATGMs. Overall, this is going to be a pretty chunky wave of releases, and I can see all of them being useful for those who backed the Kickstarter (while the rest of us will need to wait just a little bit longer). Ideally, these should be out next week to Kickstarter backers (assuming they pass QA testing) and then it will be onto Wave 3.
Urban Scatter Gaming Preparing A Warehouse for July’s Release

Urban Scatter Gaming took a break at the start of the month, but he has been hard at work behind the scenes. Last week (literally just after I went to publications), USG showed off a full preview of what’s coming out this month. Last month may have been the local garage/industrial unit; this time it’s the local warehouse and distribution centre.

The main structure for the Builder tier is split into two parts – the loading bay and the warehouse. As you can see above, both sets are fully expandable, letting you vary the size depending on what you need. The loading bay has two modules, one with a driver access door next to the cargo roller door while the other is a pair of roller doors for when you need to really stretch your input capacity. The warehouse, on the other hand, has three modules – one to connect to the loading bays with an access door, a central piece which can be repeatedly printed to make the structure as long as you need, and then the foot entrance to finish the structure off. Each of these modules joins together with a piece that looks like the metal structure you’d expect to see on these buildings. As with all USG releases, these pieces are all designed to be printed in pieces on a smaller-sized FDM printer, broken up into smaller parts to make sure that everyone can print them.

On the designer side, you’re looking at things to fill the warehouse (and the yard) with. The trailer is particularly impressive, offering a fully FDM printable piece where you can choose to mount the container on the back or not (just in case you want to make the battlefield a little more interesting). Inside, we have a pile of crates, shelves, and pallets ready to fill the space. There is even a scissor lift to help reach those upper shelves (and presumably set up for an enemy goon to fall off if my day job tells me anything). There will also be a few more pieces for the office and loading bay, as well as a printable sheet to decorate it all.
Overall, this is looking like a pretty great set of releases – way back in the day I had TTCombat’s absolutely massive warehouse, and it was impressive on the table. This set should easily fill that gap, making the possibility of an industrial wasteland stretching out across the board like something out of Los Sueรฑos or Lenton.
Modern Miniatures Previews August Releases
Finally, Modern Miniatures has released its previews for the upcoming August releases. While previous months have seen some terrain sets of multiple structures, this time around everything is getting shot to pieces.

On the terrain side, we have two of the three damaged vehicles that will be included. The stripped-down modern muscle car and the smashed-up van are both useful vehicles for the tabletop, be that sat in a chop shop or filling out the junkyard around a criminal’s lair. These vehicles will also come with some wheel options (looking suitably flat and damaged tyres). There is still another vehicle coming to fill out the selection.

For the Miniatures tier, we’re seeing even more of the very familiar t-shirted and non-tactical-trouser-wearing PMC operators. These four are all armed with suppressed high-end AR-15s, but with three specialists mixed in – one is a marksman using an LVPO, another is a breacher with both bolt cutters and a breaching shotgun, and the last has a slung M320 grenade launcher (complete with mag pouches). There will be a second set with support weapons coming later (with an LMG and an SMG at least), and all will support modular heads to allow you to mix and match.

Finally, the August MMF Tribe release is going to give you all the parts needed for shooting range out in the country. Ideal for giving that extra touch to a training camp, the set has some neat features (such as backstops, various-sized walls and two types of targets) which will look great. There is also a big pile of weapons to really set the scene. The Tribes release will also include a GMC-style van, perfect for having carried all the guns and ammo out to the woods (or to carry the team of mercenaries ready to shoot the people trying to practise with them).
As mentioned before, all of these items will be released in August (and knowing Modern Miniatures, they will come out pretty sharpish). I think this looks like another great set of items for printing, perfect for adding that extra detail to the tabletop.

If you want to support my work on gathering the news together, my Patreon is the best way to keep things going. With a minimal cost of ยฃ1 a month, every little helps to keep the news spigot flowing and to let me cover more of the suppliers, rules writers and inspirational creatives out there.
Of course, if you are a REAL news fan, there is a higher tier for the News Fan. For ยฃ5 a month (or ยฃ1.25ish a post), you can guarantee youโll get your weekly dose of news updates and keep me going.
If you really want to help keep this site running, you can join the Special Projects and Logistics Group for ยฃ7.50 a month. This gives you access to a whole host of additional blog content – more in-depth analysis on the news, SPOT-REPs to act as a guide to the industry, updates on various projects I’m personally working on (such as the ChargeReal or Project Elements) or even more unannounced items coming soon. For less than ยฃ2 a week, this tier will make sure you see everything I get up to on the blog, perfect for someone wanting a finger on the pulse of the Ultramodern niche.
