Adventures in Wargaming

Half of June is over, the summer is basically here and there is a pile of new updates from Ultramodern Wargaming. Read on for all the latest in previews, releases and more!
Spectre have returned from their trip to the States and we’re already seeing a glimpse of what’s coming soon thanks to the WIP channel on the Spectre Discord. It’s hard to overstate how important the Spectre technical releases (both the original in early 2017 and the SF variants later in the year) were to both this blog and to the business as a whole, providing a set of modular pieces to assemble a vehicle at just the right level of power for the skirmish game of Spectre Operations. However, time has moved on since 2017 and the variety of vehicles…
Right on schedule, Friday saw another update from the guys at ESS on their next stage for INCOUNTRY. We now have a release date! August 1st 2023 will see INCOUNTRY: RECON release, along with a pre-order event for a few new releases that are ideal for this smaller figure count version of the INCOUNTRY mechanics. The actual rules themselves will be available for free and available from the INCOUNTRY website, in the same way as the SKULLCORE rules for KillWager were released. You may also notice above we have another new squad that’s coming as part of RECON. These guys…
Since moving house, I’ve decided to move away from my purely black undercoat to roughly dry brushing layers of increasingly lighter grey and white to allow me to use contrast and other similar tools on my models while still retaining a similar feel to the older models I’ve painted and are still in my collection. The problem with this for me is that I’ve been absolutely chewing through my supply of kitchen paper due to all this drybrushing, which is a problem when I already need it for 3D printing and actual kitchen tasks. However, while browsing my Facebook feed,…
Flytrap Factory has today shown off some visuals of their upcoming ultramodern figures they are releasing later this month via Patreon. This first video shows off the first two elements that are coming out on July 15th for Black Sector. The Assault Element and Breacher Element are reasonably modern PMC operators (although not quite tip of the spear). The Assault Element is 5 figures with suppressed ARs, while the Breacher Element adds the specialists for the assault – two figures with MP7s and shotguns, two MP7 users with breaching gear and a Marksman to cover the final approach. The figures…
It’s the start of a new month which means (like clockwork), Enemy Spotted Studios has a new release up on its tribes page at My Mini Factory. And these guys are something I’ve been looking for since basically 2009. Yep-Yep. I previewed Shade Company a few weeks ago when they were first shown off but now they should be in your hands. I haven’t been sent them yet (MMF is showing me an empty slot) but when they are done hopefully I’ll be getting them painted off and ready to talk about alongside the figures I bought from ESS and…
The day is here – Spectre has released the figures they have been teasing and previewing for the last few weeks. So we have the SWAT Team, we have the Criminal Element Gang and we have the Heist Crew. We also have a resin Bearcat for your SWAT team to ride around in, making this one of the largest releases Spectre has done for a while. There are a few interesting things to point out with this release. The first is that these figures are not being released in metal – instead, each set includes the line “These Miniatures are…
Austin Miniatures, makers of modular Ultramodern figures, earlier this week released a brand new set of PMC Operators, available now on Gumroad as STL files. As you can see form the pictures above, these are all geared up with the latest and greatest in terms of kit. High spec M4s complete with a Hyrdra seque optic/laser mount, the new FN EVOLYS, the Raider pistol kit and AR10s for the DMRs. It even has a shotgun figure. It obvious these designs are coming from the same place as some of the BPRE figures, although there are a few interesting differences when…
Yesterday Echelon Software, the makers of Black Powder Red Earth and BPRE28mm, dropped something brand new and larger than life to their preview feed. Having already released some rather fantastic figures for their 28mm game, they are now looking to bring All Kill No Capture to a slightly different figure market – that of the 1/35 scale collector. We’ve been given a set of five preview images (one for each of the figures in the box), showing off the variety you’ll be able to play with once they are released. They are expertly painted by Komarev Projekts, someone who has…
