SITREP: The Regular Opponents Try Warcry

One major advantage of moving back to Leeds was putting me back in range of my university friends, many of whom have appeared on this blog as what I have jokingly called the Regular Opponents. We have the Creative (the man of big gaming rooms, too much Napoleonics and my 3d printing sensei), we have the Corporate (who also transferred to the same office so I see 3 days a week mostly and got very into playing BPRE against), the Former Housemate (whose love for Necromunda knows no bounds and whose intro Warcry we covered last week) and of course…

Gunslinger Release: January 2024 โ€“ Raptor Diagnostics Field Operations Team

Smoke from the crash site could be seen from a mile away as the two SUVs swerved through Damascusโ€™s early afternoon traffic. While the drivers concentrate on the road, the teamโ€™s technician begins downloading briefing packets to the team, sending directly to their heads-up displays in their glasses and handheld tactical units to store them. In the back of each vehicle, operators begin pulling special equipment from storage – launch tubes for loitering munitions, extra medical equipment and handheld tools to remove delicate pieces from the crashed satellite. The SUVs pull up in a ruined set of buildings to disembark…

    The News Stand: 22/01/2024

When I started writing this post, I was about to say it was a quiet week. Wrong, there is a actually a whole chunk of stuff! • SITREP: How To FDM A City

SITREP: How To FDM A City

I bought a replacement FDM printer back in September last year after seeing the Neptune 4 on a good deal. The previous printer (an Ender 5 Pro) worked but time has moved on and the Neptune on paper was such a huge step up, that it just made sense. So it’s strangely odd that this blog has been relatively quiet about it. In fact, it’s never been mentioned on here at all. That was because I managed roughly 3 days of printing on it before I had major issues with first-layer adhesion (kind of vital for a system that slowly…

  • SITREP: Warcry and Other Fantastical Things

SITREP: Warcry and Other Fantastical Things

I think most wargamers, even historical ones who claim they want nothing to do with things outside of history books, find themselves having to decide if they prefer fantasy or sci-fi. The two aren’t mutually exclusive, it’s easy enough to enjoy the two side by side, but deep down, everyone has a preference for the sword or the blaster. Except Star Wars fans who cheat by combining the two. For me, I’m very much a fantasy man. The infinite worlds and galaxies are fun, but they don’t compare to some good low-level fantasy, the struggle of the ordinary human versus…

    The News Stand: 15/01/2024

Halfway through the month, and it’s felt like a warzone already! Or maybe it’s just because today is my first day back at the day job. This week kicks off strong with a brand new game on pre-order, details of what’s coming up from Echelon AND the ever-continuing stream of Patreon updates. Oh yeah, and also a Gunslinger release, the first of Version 2! As always, thanks to the News Fans and other patrons over on the ChargeBlog patreon for buying my time to make this wrap-up each week. If you like these roundups and find them useful, why not…

  • SITREP: New Year, New Club

    SITREP: New Year, New Club

I’ve been in Leeds since February 2020 and despite this city having multiple wargames clubs, I’ve only just managed to get my ass to one. The Leeds Wargames Club (those guys who run Fiasco every year including when I demo’d Dragon’s Hoard back in the day) are based out of Hicks Hall in the Burley area (just around the corner from Cardigan Fields Leisure Park in Kirkstall), which rather uniquely is a property the club has exclusive use of – usually wargames clubs have to settle for pub backrooms or rented spaces which can limit their game time due to…
