Adventures in Wargaming

The week has ticked over, so it’s time to cover all the latest in the world of Ultramodern Wargaming. New releases from Spectre, previews from Combat Octopus and many others, and even a sign of life from Haywire. Read on for more!
Raiders! So reads the message that reaches a clan of Mandalorians on the Outer Rim during the early days of the New Republic. The promise of Credits and Settlement Rights are a mighty tempotation for a wandering band of mercenaries looking to settle down after the destruction of the Despised Empire. Two of the mysterious warriors have arrived on the planet of Jantouine before the rest of the clan, The Kid and The Guide. But, their attempts to reach town are paused by the arrival of a pair of raiders, here to check out the newcomers and remind them of…
Spectre Miniatures has announced its latest release – a redesign of the Aftermath Kill-team, all kitted up for a trip in a hostile environment. The set is six figures armed with a good mix of gear. Two of them are using AK74s. The others are a touch more special – two are geared up for close-quarters room clearing, a Saiga 12 and a PP-19 fitting the bill while long-range options come in the form of an RPK-12 gunner. Finally, you have a squad leader with a suppressed AEK-919K machine pistol. All of them are geared up in full CBRN suits…
Flytrap Factory announced yesterday more details on Gunslinger, their upcoming monthly Patreon delivering digitally sculpted figures. So far, all that’s been revealed is the image of these operators above along with the news it’s releasing in July. … that seems a little short for a news article, so let’s see. Good news for all you readers, I’ve actually been chatting to Anton (the sculptor behind Flytrap and its adorable Warpods) about this project for a few months now. Ever since he invited me out for a drink while he was visiting the UK, I’ve been kept in the loop, and…
I absolutely detest being ill. Yes, I’m sure this concept is shocking to everyone, how daring to not enjoy being ill. But the main thing I hate is just the lack of ability actually to progress on the stuff I want to do. I have a small pile of things at the moment that need to be done as soon as possible and worse, things I was just getting momentum on. Basically what happened was that on the Tuesday after Salute, I suddenly started feeling really off. After struggling through the day, I had an early night. For the rest…
Well, on Saturday while at Salute I took into my hands a suspicious brown paper envelope from one Mr Richard Clarke of Too Fat Lardies. Inside was the rulebook and cards for What a Cowboy, a ruleset that went from “eh cowboys” to “VERY EXCITED” in not a huge amount of time. Of course, this is probably in a large part down to the Mandalorian returning (as well as rewatching the first and best season of it) as well as playing some Red Dead Redemption 2 but something in me got very excited about some rooting tooting cowboy shooting… even…
Right, it’s time for a little plugging. I don’t do it much so I realise this may be a little bit of a shock. In case you didn’t know, I run a Patreon for this blog! It mostly is to function as a tip jar, somewhere to drop a bit of cash every month if you like the stuff I’m making and want to help me get hold of new things to play around with. Thanks to helping me pay off my Patreon bill every month, I’ve been able to flex out a little bit and pick up some extra…
Oh no, he’s back to writing news posts Combat Octopus has released this month’s figure set today. It was definitely an eagerly awaited one, especially as for a long time CO had said that doing Regular US Army was not on his list of goals (seeing as they have been pretty widely covered). However, times change, the masses demand and so Patrons backing him in April are getting this set of modular STL parts for some US Army figures, specifically for Iraq in 2007. The release was slightly later than planned but CO has been providing updates along the way,…
After moving in, I haven’t yet had a chance to hit the gaming table in my own house, instead going off to the Dastardly Regular Opponent’s house for Chain of Command or BattleTech. However, having finished decorating my dining room I am now ready to begin hosting games for my roster of opponents. But where to begin? Well, with my former housemate coming over for one of our food/gaming/chat sessions and with the allure of the new units for Echelon and Hongbin alike, we had to get BPRE 28mm back on the table. It had been a while since the…
