Adventures in Wargaming

Summer is here, and so the cup doesn’t quite floweth over as everyone takes time out. However, there are still some great previews for all things Ultramodern this week, so read on for more!
Last weekend was Vapnartak in York and, as much as I enjoy the show, I mainly use it as an excuse to gather my Regular Opponents together so we can disappear off to the nearby scout hut and take part in one of our game days. In the past we’ve used this place to play Chain of Command on a big table, a mix of Too Fat Lardies things and more. This year, the plan was Tanks – specifically lots of tanks and the Too Fat Lardies game “What a Tanker”. My original plan of taking the week to prepare…
Hi everyone! As you may have seen, since July last year I’ve been working closely with Anton and Kim at Flytrap Digital and Dan at Desk-Ops on the Gunslinger 2030 range (if you haven’t I have some questions about my engagement numbers). This range has been a fantastic opportunity to get on the other side of the table from usual impression pieces and be the one helping to make them go from concept to real physical objects I’ve painted. In the seven months we have been doing Gunslinger, we released over 71 figures, 50 unique heads across 5 factions in…
The shortest month of the year is here and people are already rushing to give me tons of stuff to look at! Not as many as we have had in previous weeks but still a very good mix of crowd funding, new releases, previews and more! As always, thanks to the News Fans and other patrons over on the ChargeBlog patreon for buying my time to make this wrap-up each week. If you like these roundups and find them useful, why not chip in on the Patreon? Spectre Miniatures Launches New Hub Pages And Scenario Spectre Miniatures are in the…
We’re into the final days of Janaury and so the news is full of either releases or previews for what is coming next month. All the usual suspects are here, so read on for all the details! As always, thanks to the News Fans and other patrons over on the ChargeBlog patreon for buying my time to make this wrap-up each week. If you like these roundups and find them useful, why not chip in on the Patreon? We’re in the final days of January so it’s your last chance to get a hold of the Raptor Diagnostics Field Team…
One major advantage of moving back to Leeds was putting me back in range of my university friends, many of whom have appeared on this blog as what I have jokingly called the Regular Opponents. We have the Creative (the man of big gaming rooms, too much Napoleonics and my 3d printing sensei), we have the Corporate (who also transferred to the same office so I see 3 days a week mostly and got very into playing BPRE against), the Former Housemate (whose love for Necromunda knows no bounds and whose intro Warcry we covered last week) and of course…
Smoke from the crash site could be seen from a mile away as the two SUVs swerved through Damascus’s early afternoon traffic. While the drivers concentrate on the road, the team’s technician begins downloading briefing packets to the team, sending directly to their heads-up displays in their glasses and handheld tactical units to store them. In the back of each vehicle, operators begin pulling special equipment from storage – launch tubes for loitering munitions, extra medical equipment and handheld tools to remove delicate pieces from the crashed satellite. The SUVs pull up in a ruined set of buildings to disembark…
When I started writing this post, I was about to say it was a quiet week. Wrong, there is a actually a whole chunk of stuff! The preview bucket is overflowing, all ready to give you inspiration before they release. So read on and get inspired! As always, thanks to the News Fans and other patrons over on the ChargeBlog patreon for buying my time to make this wrap-up each week. If you like these roundups and find them useful, why not chip in on the Patreon? A little delay on Gunslinger this week – the figures are on my…
I bought a replacement FDM printer back in September last year after seeing the Neptune 4 on a good deal. The previous printer (an Ender 5 Pro) worked but time has moved on and the Neptune on paper was such a huge step up, that it just made sense. So it’s strangely odd that this blog has been relatively quiet about it. In fact, it’s never been mentioned on here at all. That was because I managed roughly 3 days of printing on it before I had major issues with first-layer adhesion (kind of vital for a system that slowly…
