Adventures in Wargaming

The week has ticked over, so it’s time to cover all the latest in the world of Ultramodern Wargaming. New releases from Spectre, previews from Combat Octopus and many others, and even a sign of life from Haywire. Read on for more!
Hey so remember how last week was an absolutely massive bumper edition? Well, it seems like it may have affected the tides of content because this week is much quieter! With the fewest items I’ve had for a while, I had to include the same company twice in the header image! Anyway, on with the news! As always, thanks to the News Fans and other patrons over on the ChargeBlog patreon for buying my time to make this wrap-up each week. If you like these roundups and find them useful, why not chip in on the Patreon? Spectre Miniatures Previews…
As you may have seen, I have a 3D printer (I’ve talked a little bit about it). Since I got my first printer back in December 2020, I’ve been printing with STL files produced by other people – something glorious about having the printer at the beck and call is the fact there are so many creators online producing a wide variety of figures, vehicles and more. I dread to think how much resin I’ve used since 2020, but if the stack of filament I’ve used since I got the Neptune 4 is a clue, it’s not a small amount.…
April has well and truly begun, complete with our first April showers (I’m writing this as a storm pelts the window). But that doesn’t mean we don’t have a pile of new updates from the world of Ultramodern Gaming – as well as a few other things that had to be included. It appears to be Kickstarter Season! As always, thanks to the News Fans and other patrons over on the ChargeBlog patreon for buying my time to make this wrap-up each week. If you like these roundups and find them useful, why not chip in on the Patreon? Spectre…
As much as I wanted to start this week’s News Stand with an April Fools, Warlord Games frankly went over the top with the sheer number of them. Instead, I can promise you a post without a single fake entry, instead bringing you a pile of new releases, previews and more! As always, thanks to the News Fans and other patrons over on the ChargeBlog patreon for buying my time to make this wrap-up each week. If you like these roundups and find them useful, why not chip in on the Patreon? Spectre Miniatures Deploys Starter Set and Reinforcements for…
You might have heard the name Shyluz being thrown around a fair amount on the blog. If you aren’t aware, this is the fictional setting for the first ChargeReal book, a deep dive that will detail its geography, and political intrigue but more importantly how it can be used for wargaming. However, before we can play in the Republic of Shyluz, Shyluz must first be created. And created from scratch – although Shyluz does share a border with Bazistan, simply dropping the pieces I have for Middle East/North Africa into it wouldn’t really be suitable, especially seeing as I picture…
It’s the start of a new week, so let’s take a look at all the latest updates from the world of Ultramodern Wargaming. We’ve got previews from Spectre, teases from Empress and much, much more! This year I’ll have been wargaming for 10 years. Over that time I’ve been lucky to be able to afford a significant chunk of items for my hobby, ranging from figures to terrain and even to tools such as my 3D printers. The hobby is something I really enjoy (and I think the fact this post is my 700th might clue you into how much I enjoy all this wargaming nonsense). However, as with any hobby project you run for 10 years there comes a time when you need to downsize, to focus on what you actually want to use.…
The Dastardly Regular Opponent and I live roughly 45 minutes away from each other – a little too far for a school night game but perfect for me to nip over on a Saturday evening. We’re aiming for at least one game day a month which so far we’ve managed to hit. When I gave him the options for this session, he moved rather quickly to sign up for another game of What An Operator – in part because we both enjoy ultramodern stuff but also because he’s fresh off running a few games of What A Cowboy derivatives (mostly…
